If you are thinking of changing to a server that has CPanel 11, I wouldnt bother, think it comes as a free update so all hosts will have it soon...

It's true cPanel will eventually automatically upgrade on many hosts, if the host allows the upgrade. I know quite a few who have turned off auto updates and don't intend to have cPanel 11 because their clients are already used to 10.

As for the advantages of cPanel 11 the biggest one I would say is:
x3 <-- the skin for the control panel
It has some massive improvements.

If you like I can setup a free basic account, on my server, for you to mess around with on for a day or two. I actually adopted cPanel 11 before the stable release was out. Some problems with the betas but I haven't had a problem on the server in over 60 days (about the time I installed cPanel 11).

cPanel 11 has many new features, We also offer cPanel 11 to all our clients. One of the best new features that took my attention was, the all new "Web Disk" feature, which you can use to update/upload your site in just few clicks. This is a really good new feature in cPanel specially when FrontPage extensions are no longer available.

If you're going to be with a cPanel hosting provider, then I'd strongly recommend using one with auto updates turned off! Auto updates are a sure-fire way to take your cPanel box offline and/or make it unstable... cPanel likes to break itself

As for the improved skin... the differences I've seen are pretty minor? Please point out which parts are so much better.

I'd say there are large improvements between the X3 skin and the X skin - aesthetically, it's like going from a Windows 95 to an XP. Apart from the aesthetics, it is also far more usable. It comes with video tutorials that can be accessed through the control panel and it's layout is also vastly improved - e.g. icons are grouped together, rather than just being shoved together in any old order, in the way the X skin is.

You have your right to disagree, but I think many people feel that the X3 skin is a vast improvement on X.

I was honestly asking for detailed differences/improvements - from what I've seen I haven't noticed much difference between old/new skins, and therefore I haven't considered this a feature... but I haven't seen it all that much, hence my genuine question + invitation for comments from those who use cPanel daily etc.

Further detailed comments on this issue are welcome from my pov.

If you haven't used cPanel 11 much, I'm sure I could setup a demo account for you to look round - free of course. I really do recommend it compared to the cPanel 10 skin

Sorry, I think you misunderstood - perhaps because I didn't make myself clear.

I'm quite familiar with cPanel's capabilities overall, and I've had the misfortune of using it on all "sides of the fence" too. However, what I'm not clear about is the specific improvements from user/reseller/provider perspective in cPanel 11 vs. cPanel 10.

From what I've seen and read thus far, it mainly looks like marketing hype and very little new stuff that's particularly groundbreaking / exciting etc.

I mean if one of the best things about it is the new default skin... there's been much better skins than the (old) default around for ages - so that's a pretty moot point IMO.

To truely understand the actual changes vs. marketing hype, you really need to be using it daily / in-depth etc. which isn't really possible for me personally. What I'm asking is for those of you who used cPanel loads forever, and have subsequently upgraded and/or taken a close look around - what are the significant changes (if any) that you're excited about that are going to improve things so much to be worth the hassle?

So, is it up to the host or clients to choose a panel?
And can hosts use cpanel10 and 11 on different servers?
