It depends on the amount of traffic you intend to put through the proxy - generally speaking I would say a VPS is sufficient, although keep in mind that some providers may frown upon using their services as a proxy due to high risk of illegal activities.
I would advise discussing this issue with your chosen provider before signing up with them to ensure that you won't have problems later (e.g. suspending / terminating service without warning etc.).

Hi Energetic, i think VPS hosting would be enough for what you need. How many proxy sites in total do you plan to host? In any event, what's your projected budget? I know of some cheap powerhouse VPS plans. Let me know if I can further help.

VPS or proxy depending on the amount of traffic you expect to get, check if hosting proxies isn't against host's rules.
Midphase.com, Vistapages.com, Serverpoint.com might be providers to start with...
Have a look at santrex.net. They have not expensive proxy hosting.
And I think that better spend $4 or so for the proxy web hosting then $XXX for the dedicated server. IMO
timbre, thank you. I just woyuld like to clarify. Yes we are doing VPS but we do not allow proxy on them.
