Can't say they are ideal, but they are the only one I have experience with, so it's ahosting.biz.

I got screwed by 1and1 as well. I got my credit card stolen, called the bank and had it put on hold. I got a new card with a different number and because 1and1 has automatic billing they tried to charge my old cc number, it was denied, and they locked my account. I changed it to the new one in my control panel with them. I STILL cant get any answer about it from their "support team".
I use dynadot.com now, they accept paypal which protects me. Plus they are pretty helpful. My advice to anyone considering 1and1...pay the extra few bucks a year to register elsewhere.

Best Hosting companies never oversell

Hi!
I think Best Hosting companies should not oversell their servers.
Most of the hosting offer unlimited bans\dwidth and BIG hosting storage.
It is just SCAM...
Nothing is Unlimited,
I found a good hosting provider,
They really limit their server clients to around 200.
Check them at www.dplwebmarketing.com/hosting
Cheers
Prasad

Interesting that they offer unlimited: - POP3 Accounts
- MySQL Databases
- FTP Accounts
- Subdomains
- Park Domains
on their shared hosting plans... MySQL in particular could be an issue offered "unlimited" - yet you also state that "nothing is unlimited"?
Personally I'd also question their data transfer allocations as 100GB is a lot for $6.95/month (Linux-4).
Anyway, if you've found them to good - great. I just thought I should point out that they may not be quite as you believe.
Whilst I'm here - the number of clients per server is usually an irrelevant figure. For a start it depends whether all services are provided by a single server, or distributed across multiple - the latter will be able to support more "per server", but the downside is that things like database connections could be slower (therefore slowing down your site - popular example would be dreamhost).
Other contributors to the performance of your shared hosting account: - Server specification (i.e. hardware)
- utilisation by other clients - if they have low traffic websites that barely use any of their allocated resources, you'll have more processor time potentially available to you etc.
- Number of domains, websites, ftp accounts, pop3 accounts, databases, files, directories etc. (note NOT number of clients!); these will increase the sizes of configuration files and/or reduce performance accessing your specific data. Although individually the performance increase is small, you will find that 1000's of domains in a config file significantly changes things compared to just a handful.
The other important consideration is that you have no way of knowing for certain how many clients, domains etc. are served by your provider's server(s). One potential method is to consider the number of domains hosted by 1 IP, or using a specific set of nameservers, but both of these only tell partial stories (they can be distorted either way depending on a number of factors).
Ultimately, I would recommend that you try to ignore the issue of x clients/domains/sites/etc. per server as this isn't practical to verify. Instead, focus on (in no particular order): - response time / helpfulness of technical support
- price - i.e. if it looks too good to be true then it probably is!
- feedback / reviews from existing clients (beware of fakes arising from affiliate schemes or other incentives offered by some providers)
- features (goes without saying?) - make a list of what you need before you start to look, and feel free to ask providers if you're not sure whether they offer feature x that you're looking for - every provider advertises their plans in a slightly different format.
- server location? - this will matter to some, and be far less important to others; for example, a common request from UK hosting customers is that they want UK based servers, because this will help ensure that their website loads a little quicker for their visitors. However, there are some good US networks that provide quick loading times for UK visitors, and overall people are used to small delays whilst surfing - it should only matter if you're looking for game hosting or other latency sensitive applications (e.g. some media streaming).

Hosts could be different about quality of service but the real worst hosts is a host that just disappear in one day without any notice.

Had some problems with 1&1 switched to Digitalcitydomains.com, cheaper and quicker tech support.

The best ones for me:
Lunarpages
HostMonster
Bluehost
The customer support teams are very helpful, the rates are competitive and the servers are reliable!
The worst:
1and1
HostGator
According to a lot of people, they suspend accounts without any notice!

You know there was a great thread on WHT, more of research nature, a WHT-er sent the email to about 20 well-known companies with the request:
1. If my site uses more resources than allocated in the plan, will you suspend my account or move it temporarily to another server?
2. Wll you notify me of this fact?
This was so much fun reading hosts' answers, some were
"Thank you for contacting us about issue. It will be settled in the near future" or the like answers.
So, now back to the best hosts, I do agree it's tempting to know how many sites you are buddied on the server with, but unless you know the stats for these sites, this won't tell you much.
The best host is the one establishing personal attitude with the client and committed to clients success. Myriadnetwork.com and Valuhost.com are very close to this.

Hi ... thanks for the hosting information.
Am trying to find time to move my site. Lunarpages looks good, but midPhase, which owns ahosting, topped my list for a new host. Does anybody have an experience with or comments about midPhase? Thanks.

I've had terrible experiences with 1and1. I've never hosted with them, but I have registered 30+ domains with them. I am slowly moving back to GoDaddy because 1and1 makes it so difficult to cancel domains. You have to receive an email to confirm the cancellation. God forbid that you never get the email....
As far as good hosting, I like my own. Large hosts do not have enough time to answer your questions properly, and even if they did, they cannot change server configurations for you because it will affect the other 1000 clients on the server. Many times their servers are oversold.
My hosting works great because I run it!
www.nbshosting.info Sure, I don't offer as much space as the big guys, but you can bet you will get the space you paid for, and some **** good technical support. Oh, and free off-site backups.

nbshosting.info looks promising. How long have you been in business, Tim? What's your set, servers, back up and such? Gave nbs its virgin stumble. Thanks.
