Hey guys. My friends cousin has been running a limousine business for about 3 years. So he decided to come to me for some help on making him a website because he now wants to put some information on the web. So I have started a site which is near in completion but. Now, he is looking to purchasing a domain and also asked me for help on that. But, the problem is, I have no clue about whats good or bad for domains.

Ok, here is a sample layout.. http://wickedskating.tripod.com/mjm/ (It's on a tripod server for now but will be transfered to the domain) What would be the best host for an information site? If you look at the site, there are about 5 links. I may add 2 or 3 more in the future that's it. I'm not looking for a host with ASP, PHP, or any other stuff. Just a pretty basic, 10 page at the most informational limousine site. Which would be a good reliable host to fit my needs?

Hi Wicked,

I would recommend that you use a cheap host like www.myacen.com or www.hostingextreme.com[/url]. Both are very reliable hosts, and their plans are not expensive at all. I seriously doubt that a 10-page informational site (without scripting, forums, chat, or anything fancy) would use up any more than 3 GB of transfer a month, unless you are pretty sure that you are going to get at least 300,000 unique visitors a month (I'm assuming that each one will use up 10 MB of transfer, which is also assuming that each visitor visits every page, and each page consists of 1 MB worth of HTML and images). I estimate that a host in the $15-$35 range would be ideal for you. I don't know a paid host that doesn't offer those basic features; the only obstacle will be reliability.

If those above hosts don't suit you, please feel free to ask. I know a few others as well.

Wow, thanks man! Now I have an idea of how that GB tranfer thing works. Lol.. some of my confusions or gone. Thanks alot, I'll check those out.

I also see that none say a domain. Do I have to purchase that seperatly? Please excuse these dumb questions, I'm lost with this paid hosting stuff.

As far as domains are concerned you'll want to have your own domain name. It's just more professional and it's easier for potential visitors to remember. You can buy domain names at any number of sites (including ours) for less than $20 per year.

By the way. I just took a look at the two sites (yours and the limo company) and I just want to say....Nice Job!.

Hi Wicked,

I recommend GoDaddy as a domain registrar, for reliability and cheap prices. I've heard that NameCheap is another good one. All you have to do is transfer the domain over to your host (most hosts offer domain hosting), and they'll figure out the rest. They'll probably even set it up for you, if you're willing to provide the password.

Just look around. Take a look at some of the hosting directories and learn more about hosting. There are plenty of quality hosts our there that offer hosting dirt cheap right now. Just don't be too hasty and end up with a bad host.

Good Luck!
