I notice a lot of hosts advertise nearly unlimited GBs of transfer and disk space. However, I am interested in a host that is offering a responsive server that is always ready and not overloaded. Are there some major web hosts that specialize in this area?

I would try using StartLogic. For me in the past theyve worked out fine.

Startlogic is a little too pricey.

Hosts like say idologic, unitedhosting, clook are known for reliability and good support, but they definitely don't compete on price, so they won't be cheap.

What is your bandwidth requirement? HostGator offers at least 50GB of bw on the cheapest plan...and yes they are VERY reliable. I haven't come across a single downtime in the few years my sites' with them (or maybe I just don't visit my site too much lol).

hostgator is a insult to the host industry. in wht forums somebody made a thread saying host gator ripped them. the customer didnt know one of his clients was doing illegal activity. hostgator suspended him without notice. then one of hostgator't admin came on the forum and started insulting the person. then gave the url to the website and incouraged victims to get revenge. wtf is what i was saying. at my last host i cursed founder of the company. very body was shocked. i would curse out.

how much do you use? shared hosting = overloaded servers. you may want to look into semi-dedicated

I'm using 2 different hosts now and planning a new site. I'll probably go with iCop as my host. Their server is the fastest and most responsive I've researched. They are a little picky about who they do business with but that's also a very good thing. www.i-cop.org

you have not really told us your budget or how much bandwdith are you looking for?
what kind of a site have you got? is is something that need to be up all the time?
As dan1088352 already said... you may want to use a semi-dedicated server if you want uptime and realiability...
but on the other hand if you want something cheap, then you must be preapared for some downtime

You must clearly specify what exactly are your requirements. How much web space you need, bandwidth, budget, uptime, support.

i use servage.net. they provide 25 Gb space and 510 GB b/w for 7.95 per month.
there is a daily b/w limit of 17 GB.

i use it for my site which provide mp3s for download. the speed and service is superb. never has a problem with thme.

Honestly i know you dont need that much space, but for the price it cant be beat... try www.bluehost.com they give 250GB / mo at an unbeatable price and 10gig hosting space. they rock!

Thank you for that. I don't think I would use more than 5 GB of transfer. But, if I go over 1 or 2 GB's I don't want to be charged more than a little change. And, I want a host that can always deliver at least 100 mbits. In short, a host that doesn't oversell. I don't need more than 1 MB of disk space.
