My website gets quite few visitors per day. For the month dec 005, the monthly bandwidth transferred was just 57.11 megs.

But for Jan. 2006, it has just up to around 1.8 GIga bits. The bandwidth indicator says that I have used 4573% of my bandwidth. The no. of pageviews, though, has not increased significantly. I don't know what to do. Will the web host charge me more now? Please help me out.

Also, SQL disk usage in the Cpanel shows 42 mb ut I still have got 10 mb free space left in my 20mb hosting account.

Please help me out.

That sounds like quite a jump and something makes me think it's not just from the visitors to your site. Some hosts charge for extra bandwidth and other's don't. It just depends on the host.

It looks like your webhost is webcomindia and I clicked through a few of their hosting plans. The ones I looked at all offered unlimited bandwidth so I think your safe, but you may want to look at your specific hosting plan and check.

Have you added a lot of larger files to your site in the last month, like videos? Even just a few large vidoes can significantly incease bandwith if enough of your visitors are viewing them. Or any other kind of large downloads?

I took a quick look at your site and didn't notice anything I would consider a large file (I'm talking about a file that would be measure in MB and not KB) If the pageviews are the same and you didn't add any large files your bandwidth should really be about the same as last month.

If your host doesn't charge anything it may not be something to worry about though you may want to contact them to ask why your bandwidth was so high. It could be a simple error in the statistics that are showing you the bandwidth, but something else may be going on that you'd want to check into.

I've not addedany such large files. But, I had used phpngen to generate a sitemap for submitting to google.

Could that be the one which ate the bandwidth?

Except that, I can't think of anything that I did that could have caused the bandwidth to be that felxible. Just the regular updates and so on.

I'll contact my webhost regarding whather they have an extra charge or not. Thanks

There is no such thing as UNLIMITED BANDWIDTH! When you start using more bandwidth then they loke trust and believe they will shut you down!
