I have been with ipowerweb for about 4 years on their shared hosting service. The shared hosting has been good. Aside from some spammer getting the ip address for our email server put in some spam database, it hasn't given me a moments trouble.

Now, my main website has begun to outgrow the shared hosting account, and my need to control the server more has increased. So, I thought I would try the virtual private server product offered by ipowerweb.

First, it took twice as long to set it up. Then they overcharged me (the setup fee was supposed to be waived). Finally, the vps won't allow me to add a new domain name. It keeps telling me the "service is unavailable". Their tech support hasn't been helpful at all. First they transferred me to billing, then to the reseller group (I had a reseller account on my shared hosting), then finally, I was transferred back to technical support. After arguing with the rep for 20 minutes, I finally convinced him that it was his department that needed to take the trouble ticket.

That was Monday. Today (tuesday), I called back to get the status. THE SAME idiot answered the phone, and told me there was no status, as the ticket hadn't been touched. After ALOT of "tough talk", I finally got a "supervisor" in "tier 2". He said he would try to get ahold of someone to get this fixed, but if he couldn't he would still call me back. I got off the phone with him at 7 PM. It is now 11 PM, and I haven't heard from him.

Does anyone else use the vps through ipowerweb? I am really hoping that once all this crap is fixed, it will be worth my time and money. Is it?

I can't afford a dedicated server. Furthermore, I don't have the time to administer the server.

Well, I hope this steers some potential customers away from Ipowerweb (aka ipower). Their technical support is absolutely the worst I have ever seen. Today, I really wished I could press a button on my phone to send 10,000 volts coarsing through the tech support reps body.

STEER CLEAR OF IPOWERWEB.

On a more positive note, does anyone know of a place where I could get a vps for around $30 per month?

Take a look at www.a2b2.com, www.powervps.com, www.servint.net/vps, www.liquidweb.com

A2B2 will more than likely be your cheapest

I have dumped ipower for the vps. I have decided to try spry.com. I just signed up, and I already received an email stating they will have it going within an hour.

I really hope this company is better than those idiots at ipowerweb. Did I mention that people should STEER CLEAR OF IPOWERWEB?!?! I just hope they give me back my money. They have this "guarantee", but I am skeptical of their entire operation. I guess I can always file a dispute with visa stating I never received the services I paid for. What a pain in the @ss!

IPOWERWEB IPOWER PROBLEMS TROUBLE STAY AWAY FROM THEM!

Spry is a good company. You shouldn't have any problems with them.

MORE REALLY ****TY STUFF.

I called them yesterday to cancel my vps and get a refund. First, the stupid rep pulled up my shared hosting account. I told her I wanted to shut down the VPS, not the shared hosting account.

This morning, my site is working, kinda. It can't connect to mysql, my news feeds aren't working, and when I try to update a file via ftp, it keeps the old version of the file. Even when I upload a completely new file, it accepts it. But when you navigate to the file via http, it says "file not found".

I hate these bastards. Stay away from them.

neorunner: I had the same problems with them, trying to get some stuff straightened out for my girlfriend's father (he had a site with them).

First of all, he prepaid for a year back in February. In October, they tried to charge his credit card (which had expired since then and had been replaced) for a full year. When it bounced, they suspended his account.

Then, when he got the account restored the first time, they suspended him for spam. Not for sending spam...but for receiving it. Somehow, they blamed him for getting spam he never asked for. (Now is that a first or what!)

Then, the account was "restored" a second time. The problem was that the suspended page kept showing up. No matter what we did to get rid of it (deleting the index page, reuploading the site, deleting the .htaccess file, etc.) it just kept showing up.

It wasn't until we got the domain transferred over to GoDaddy (iPowerWeb was the registrar too) and got the hosting transferred over to web.com that the problems with the site stopped.

Buuuuut...there was still the matter of a refund. Since 5.5 months had still not been used on the account, my girlfriend's dad was entitled to a pro-rated refund. Or so I thought. How silly of me to assume that, based on the reaction I got from some idiot who answered the phone.

"You can cancel if you want, but you might as well keep it since we're not giving you a refund and there's nothing wrong with your site."

"What do you mean?"

"I don't see the suspended page at all."

"That's because the domain's transferred, Einstein."

It took three phone calls, AND a tech rep actually willing to read the ToS, before anyone agreed to give my girlfriend's dad the refund. Which, by the way, he's still waiting for two months later.

So I'm with you, neorunner. Screw iPowerWeb.

I don't know why many of you take
on the big companies. That they have a lot of years
hosting experiense and many clients and perfect support,
don't make them good or best. Many clients make
a contract with powweb or other big hosting companies
for a year and they don't have cPanel or even plesk.
Their control panels are auful and is big problem making
mysql databases and or make someting in the apache server.
Every of you give a lot of money and after 1 day starts
to swear (sorry for the bad word) here.

My cousin was using powerweb too. He was having the same problems with the billing. They charged him setup fees even when there weren't suppose to be any

Big companies usually do that and you have to argue with them to get your money back unfortunately. That's why sometimes it is better to work with smaller companies because they give you special attention as they have less customers.

I registered on this site just to reply to your post. OMG, ipowerweb is a total rip off. I hosted 3 sites thru them paying the full year for each and 2 months later they canceled all my accounts saying that I was sending spam emails. I had no idea what they were talking about.. I lost over $175 in hosting with them. They refused to talk with me about it and give me access to download all my hard work I had hosted with them. I think they are a bunch of scammers and what goes around comes around.

I highly recommend Ehostpros. I never had so much as a minute of downtime with them in the past 3 years.

STAY FAR AWAY FROM IPOWERWEB!

I have a thread on here somewhere titles, "Aviod Ipower like the plaque." I have had a dedicated server with them for some time. It takes them 12 hours or more for a simple reboot! I can't connect through FTP 75% of the time. My site up time is pathetic!

Ipower is terrible! I am looking at moving to a FULLY managed dedicated server soon.

I've used http://www.ipowerweb.com for the basic hosting for some time now--they've been great. But I've had no experience with them in the VPS. I've used a dedicated server for my higher demands (I use http://www.ez1web.com for the dedicated).

NEVER USE IPOWERWEB
I signed up with Ipowerweb in 2002, it was pretty good at that time, I don't have much problem on their host, however from this year their service is awful, they upgraded their server and control panel from "cpanel" to "vdeck", as I am an old customer, my website is hosted on cpanel, this admin panel has lots of problems and broken links since they use vdeck, I contacted them many times but every time except saying " I do apologize..." they did nothing. On August 18, 2006 their server was hacked by "turkish..." it's about one week I cannot receive/send email, after that email works occasionally, I cannot stand for it, and moved to another host service.
Also terrible "money back"--- on their website it states "unconditional money back with 30 days", I have a new website launched this August, I signed up with them for 30 days trial, however after experiencing server hack and bad service, I decided to cancal my account and request refund within one month, however I didn't receive refund so far(one month passed), and my account is still alive. I contacted them serveral times everytime the reply is "I do apologize...your account will be closed soon" but nobody takes care of it.
It was pretty a good host but now it's so bad, at least customer service, I have been with them for 4 years but now no longer trust them.
DO NOT GO WITH THEM!!!

I wish I had found this site before having all the problems that I have had with them lately.

During one of their recent "email issues" one of our clients told my boss about an email that was sent to me and my boss. We were both on the "TO:" line of the email. I got the email, but my boss never did. I have Exchange server getting the emails for all our staff and I could clearly see (from my own logs) that my Boss never did get that email. I immediately opened a trouble ticket with iPower and when I didn't hear from them after a few days I started to call and use the chat feature on their site. I cannot tell you how many times they told me that "someone is working on it and it will be resolved in a few hours". Finally, after two weeks, one tech support guy said "it has our highest priority on your ticket" (I was told that once before too).

Finally I got a call today from someone asking about my problem and he insisted that he couldn't research my problem. I asked if you lost this email, how many have you lost before that I didn't know about!?

After speaking with a supervisor, I'm clearly taking my business elswhere. The supervisor told me that there are many reasons why an email could go missing...but when asked what specific reason MY EMAIL went missing, he had no answer! He wasn't even willing to look into it for me. I know it wasn't the typical issues like over-limit email account, in SPAM folder, returned undeliverable, etc...It was literally LOST within the realm of iPowers servers.

I got nothing but the run-around from them and they don't seem to care if they start loosing your emails!!!

DO NOT USE IPOWER...BUT, IF YOU ALREADY ARE USING THEM, START YOUR MIGRATION TO ANOTHER HOST TODAY! ITS NOT IF, BUT WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN TO YOU!
