With their direct competitors (such as ipowerweb, powweb etc.) having similar offers, it was only a matter of time before this would happen. I just hope they'll maintain the higher levels of quality, and in turn maintain their good reputation.

I think it's funny that people get excited about things like this. Has anyone even used the 1Gb of space and 100Gb of bandwidth they were offering before?

This is nothing more then a marketing ploy. I can almost guaruntee that 95% of their users never even came close to the old space and bandwidth limits.

This type of marketing is just a way of getting around the 'unlimited' plans hosts used to offer, now that users are being trained that 'unlimited' is bad.

your right, but you can hold them to the 3/400 deal, the unlimited has catches

Unfortunately in shared hosting you can't really hold the host to the data transfer deal. They always have the server resources abuse policy on their side. Once you go over a certain limit, it is the CPU and memory usage abuse threshold that effectively limits the data transfer that you can use.

This is true, 90%+ of hosts oversell on their servers

Only 5% of the websites on the internet have more 2,000,000 hits. So again it doesn't matter much for a webhost if 5 out 100 accounts get that kind of traffic.

It's true that most users don't use more than 50% of their allocation. However, it will be great news for me as I usually use up to 80-90% of my allocation. That's why I am always looking around budget basement reseller packages since my usage is high. Furthermore, hits and unique visitors are two completely different statistics to look at. Hits doesn't always mean a lot of visitors.

well a lot of companies are moving towards offering more bandwidth... i was actually amazed when a customer emailed me to say that netfirms is offering 1.5 TB of bandwidth and 40 Gb of space for less than $15 and asked why dont we do that as well...
I find it really diffcult to believe that a average customers will ever use that much of B/W and space.

Yes, these allotments seem to become the norm in the budget hosting are of the market. Really sad if you ask me.
