Hello everybody!

I desperately need a new GOOD ISP.

This is what I need:
-NOT very expensive;
-Unix\Linux\FreeBSD;
-PHP/MySQL;
-Cron support;
-Protected directories;
-Web-mail;
-High bandwidth;
-Good customer support, of course.

Reason? My site was down too often and the number of visitors was too unpredictable. It jumped from 400 to 60 within one week. I ordered a profound examination of my web-site at http://www.dotcom-monitor.com (website and network monitoring company). In their report the following reasons were mentioned:
-"Slow Website Response"
-"Slow Web Page Response"
-"Varying Website Response from Different Geographical Locations"

I'm sure it is Extcom's (my current provider) fault, but communication with the Customer Support brings only promises and excuses. This persuades me that it's high time to move my site to a completely different place.

Your advice? I have two companies in view but ALL your recommendations are welcomed

Based on my personal experience I can recommend you Hostgator.com. I think they fit your requirements quite well.

This is somewhat normal as latency certainly varies with distance.

I think you should always check 24/7 tech support, chat and phone support with free trial or 30days money back guarantee along with the reliable and reputed hosting company. IMO, Lunarpages is the host of the year and hostgator is also good hosting company. You should go through the webhostingunleashed.com for more host companies reviews to choose web host.

I would recommend servage for your medium website, as long as if you wont go over 11gb /day then you're fine. Here's a coupon code for an extra 500mb:

mod edit: referral code removed

The features you want are almost standard features with any nix host. What you need to check is the reliability of that host.

Before signing, send an email asking questions regarding your requirement. The response time will give you the idea about their customer care. (Although the tech support dept. may be different and the response of tech support may differ, but still you will get an idea about their customer care).

Ask for sites hosted by them. You can check the loading speed of the site hosted by a particular host using free site spotcheck tool at www.alertra.com
The loading time at different parts of the world will give you an idea about the server load and speed.

Check the checklist before signing. The checklist is available at http://www.web-hosting-world.com/web...-checklist.php

Also check the guarantees like 30 days money back guarantee and uptime guarantee. Interepret this guarantees by reading TOS.

Once Satisfied, Pay for your hosting account. All the above work will cost you about 20-30 minutes of time. But will save you lot of time in the future.

starter-host looks quite n00b to be honest. 4 types of fonts in one list, paying with PayPal only, a butt-ugly website...

Anyone knows a host that doesnt require a **** creditcard for purchasing, and no, i don't want servage...

Thanks for pointing out the resource webhostingunleashed.com! I like to use independent resources when possible for such decisions.
