Hey, many of us have had experiences with paid and free webhosts, some good some bad. The thing is, were we to share our experiences, we as a community, could filter out the realy bad webhosts, who lie, have bad support, etc... from the good ones, stopping people from losing money by spending it on a bad webhost.

If you have an experience, please share it here, or if you'd like to write a full review about a website you've used, please post a review on my website http://www.webmastergalaxy.net no registration is required.

I've used many web hosts, all my reviews are on my website, which you can read by either clicking on the paid webhost or free webhost section, but I will share one here now.

free webhost: DHOST:
I had been angry and frustrated, I was running a fan-site which required a lot of space a bandwidth, for my downloads and images. I had found websites that gave a lot of space but they had ridicolous bandwidth limits, I found others that gave a lot of bandwidth and space, but had ridicolous filesiize limits, 1MB or they didn't allow zip files. Then, I found DHOST a fantastic free host, giving 100 MB space 300 GB monthly bandwidth NO file size limit and they allowed downloads as long as it was not a download only site. They are the greatest free webhost in the world, if you want a free webhost, use them.

I havn't had a lot of experience with webhosting but feel that I've got a pretty good one right now if you need the power that only a pay hosting plan can offer.

www.globat.com

I picked them because they seemed to have some of the cheapest rates around (I got my package for less than $4 a month when I paid for one year, and a domain name included). I believe the current deal is 300GB monthly bandwidth and 10GB storage for $24 a year although it's a $30 setup fee (not sure if that is a normal thing and kinda bothers me)

Haven't had any problems except for one that was my fault (trial and error with .htaccess) and they fixed very quickly. They also offer to extend your package when you refer friends.

For my own site I originally went with midhost.net - mostly because it was $12 a year and had some decent reviews on webhosting talk forums. That was a bad choice. My site was down every other day!!! I have recently changed to kualo.com.

The reasons I went with them is

1. because of the sterling reputation they have - 4 years in business, a policy to notify all their customers if they experience any issues, lightening fast support.

2. because this is the host WT uses and I have never seen WT down due to server issues.

3. reasonable prices.

I only switched this week, but already I have experienced the lightening fast response with support. They answered a question in less than 5 minutes!!

I hopped around some free hosts for several before I started my own web hosting service last year. I did not advertise heavily on paid hosting but still managed to get some paying clients. My current focus is on ad-supported hosting.
