All of my sites with one particular host are unable to upload files using my ftp software. The sites themselves seem to be working fine as does the ccontrol panel and all of it functions. Just the ftp is the problem.

This is what my host says in response to my trouble ticket:

Quote:
We have reviewed your trace route results and it seems to be a routing problem between your ISP and our Data Center as the connection 'dies'
after hitting balt.demarc.cogentco.com. This router does not belong to us or our Data Center so in a situation like this we run into trouble as the problem lies between our data center and your ISP.

As a general rule routing issues such as this, tend to clear themselves after a few days however we realize this is an inconvience for you in the meantime as you are trying to update your site..

As an alternative to using FTP, you can tempoarily upload files to the server via the File Manager icon from inside your control pannel located at http://nottherealsitename.com/menu and the same goes for your other domains. Once you are logged into the File Manager , navigate to the directory that you wish to send the files to, and along the bottom of this page you will see "Send this file", which will allow you to navigate to the files on your hard drive.

We do understand this is a slow and tedious process, however when the problem such as this arises it is the best and easiest solution until the matter resolves itself.
Is this a legitimate thing to say?

Are they being honest?

They have been a good host for years.

I would never assume they were lieing unless you had evidence to prove they are liers already. I think that sounded sympathetic and very reasonable, they are offering the best they can do in a situation like this. They could have just told you it was not their problem and left it at that. Their lengthy response seems to indicate to me that they really do want to keep your business.

I would give it a few days and if it does not clear up, I would respond to this letter, kindly, and see where they take it from there.

I agree with cptniwinky, if they've been a good host for years then I wouldn't suspect them of lying. They gave you a thorough reason for your problem as well as a workaround for it in the meantime.

Things do happen that are out of the hosts control and this sounds like one of them. I'd trust them.
