Has anyone ever used www.freeservers.com for free hosting? Is the paid version worth paying for?

It depends on what type of web hosting you are looking for.

Script0r, if I can get away with using free hosting, I'll do it, but my understanding is that if I want a domain name (currently www.alliancemortgagecorp.com ;will probably change to www.amcindiana.com if we can't get out from under our current setup easily) I have to use paid hosting. I've used Freeservers for a couple of crappy personal sites before, wasn't sure if there were any extra features besides domain name and more space if I went the paid route.

It's all good though, cause I was looking at Yahoo's webhosting services, and it looks pretty good so far ... and cheap too

ORiN, I am not sure what you mean by "type" of hosting. (I assume "managed, shared, dedicated", etc?) And I am not sure what type of hosting I need, either. We have our own server, but I don't think it's capable of handling the kind of traffic I plan to have.

If you are thinking of moving over to the paid version there is better hosting sites out there for less..

For example GoDaddy.com

Offer 500MB space 25GB bandwidth for $3.95 a month... thats like 10 times more space and 5 times the amount of bandwidth..

and with GoDaddy you know your getting quality

My site is hosted by GoDaddy. It's ok. Good support. And if you need to register a domain name they do it about as cheap as anyone. I don't have their 3.95 plan....I have a little more expensive one (still only 9.95) with a few extra bells and whistles.

If that is the case, I recommend that you start with Shared Hosting. I normally stay clear of big players like GoDaddy mainly because I want dedication for my technical support. You might want to try HostVoice.com or SolidInternet.com. I have heard quite a bit of good reviews from them.

I will look into these things further -- I was also looking at Yahoo's webhosting packages, which seem good, but not as cheap as these you're talking about. Thanks for the hints

That's good advice, the really big comanies like GoDaddy and Yahoo tend to see their customers as "just another customer". They'll answer your question when they get a chance, as they have thousands of other customers to deal with.
The smaller hosting companies will work harder for your business and will usually want to help more. They don't have nearly as many customers and to them, every customer counts.

Free hosting IS NOT the way to go, you can pull off a very good host for only $100 a year, thats less than .33 a day!

You can stay more to the freehosting companies !
There is good and worst
The only think that I don't like is the advertisement.
If they put a banner TOP ... its better than popups and/or
spyware virus content
I can recommend you get freehosting from
Paid webhosting companies ...
I think that there is one
FREEHOSTING cPanel company that promote
freehosting here on this forum
with 1000MB of bandwith ... read more topics
on the Webhosting content in this forum and you will
see this freehosting company in the down below
little advertisements Sorry I forgot their URL
EDIT: http://www.feefreehosting.com/

For example ATSPACE.COM is freehosting company
hosted in everyone servers - ev1.com. A freehosting
company of one PAID webhosting company.

They write on the site that they give you:
50 MB Free Web Hosting
» Free UNLIMITED Traffic
» Free Domain Hosting
» Free Subdomain Hosting
» Free DNS Server
» Free FTP Hosting Account
» Free POP3 Email Account
» Instant Account SetUp
» Web Based File Manager
» Easy to use Control Panel
» Reliable RAID Backups
» Stable Hosting Platform
» Super Fast Servers
» Reliable Data Center
Ultra Fast Network
» 99.8% Uptime Guarantee
» 24x7 Network Monitoring
» Host Unlimited Web Sites
» NO BANNER ADS
» ALL THIS TOTALLY FREE!!!

They have support forum:
http://www.atspace.com/forum/

You can find some freehosting clients and see
their web sites ...
I have heard very good reviews for that freehost
They don't support Scripts (PHP, MYSQL, CGI or other)
And you must know that they are FREEHOST
and if you make a lot of bandwith they may close your account !
You must know that UNLIMITED is impossible (in bandwith)
I think that you must try them
I think that the good here is that they have support in their forum
If you need PHP Forum board there are many free
phpBB hosts, but they lie that they don't put advertisements

I think that I helped you !

P.S No reffered links

The last think is that you will fly from freehost to freehost
If you host illegal content such as: porn, mp3, warez or other content

freeservers.com is absolute waste of time. It has no customer support or even if they pick up phone it takes around 30 to 40 mins. No matter what option you choose same person will reply ( technical, cancellations or customer support you take any section, it is one and same) , I am unfortunately using them from last two years since it was paid (auto charged on my cc), but not any further.

Service really sucks, from last 3 weeks my pop3 is down and even webmail is totally down, I have called them nearly 20 times, and many online complaints but so far no response, not even acknowledgment or any committment to fix up.

Moreover many of my customers in past complained that any email sent to this server bounce back. But i managed thinking it could be few isolated incidences.

In all freeservers.com sucks, i think it is a small company operating from some basement or similar place with one or two persons managing it.
It takes hours to even talk to them over phone, and even by mistake if you get someone on phone, you won;t get any problem fixed up.

Freeservers really sucks. I wouldn't suggest anyone to ever use this service. It is absolute waste of time. I am closing my business with them once and for all.

PLEASE STOP USING THIS SERVICE AND SAVE YOUR BUCKS AND BUSINESS.

AMCAmanda, if you need review of free web hosting I'd recommend you have a look at Freewebspace. They seem to be guide for free web hosting.
