Just canceled GoDaddy. NEED A HOST!

Bought GoDaddy yesterday, canceled today. Servers were unreal. My simple PHP scripts needed at least 2-3 seconds of processing time, and I had downtime my first night. Definitely no good impressions there. Today, my mail script has mail that is queued up to 3 hours. WHO HAS THE PATIENCE FOR THAT?! It was, absolutely, at least 2 times worse than the free host I was on.
Do people know of GOOD, RELIABLE, FAST hosts with PHP (preferably 5.3), MySQL, .htaccess, IMAP/POP support? I just need GREAT, RELIABLE hosting, not the bull crap that I just got from GoDaddy. First time shopping for paid hosting (been using free for more than three years, lol)
I hear big names like BlueHost and HostGator all the time, but now I know not to trust big names after the fiasco with GoDaddy.
Any suggestions?

You should have done your research first, and you'd know that domain registrars hosting are completely crap no matter which registrar it is. It's common knowledge that I've seen over and over again on various forums.
HostGator is good, but their support can be...lacking sometimes depending on what your site is about. I had an arcade website hosted with them about 2 years ago, and they treated me like absolute garbage and kept giving me runarounds.
Another host to consider is Hosting24, which is the paid hosting sister of 000webhost who happens to currently be one of the top free hosting companies in the world.

Godaddy is one of the famous domain registrar and not a famous hosting company because of that we cannot blame other top big companies like HostGator.
HostGator is really more popular company that holds large number of satisfied customers and has enough experience to provide all types of hosting.
Also, nowadays it has very reputation and got good name among web masters.
So, i can say there is no need to scare of ask about this company who is already hosting in it for their experience.
From the beginning, i do hosting with it and not yet got very bad experience.
so, i can suggest this company instead of godaddy.
Decision will be yours.
Thanks.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I've done research and have went with InMotion, which, unlike the other two, has an unreal amount of great reviews on the internet and almost no dissatisfied customers. So far, the experience has been good.

I can definitely attest to that being the regular service level there. I'm had better luck in that sense with Hostgator, 1and1, and Justhost.
Do keep us updated on your experience with Inmotion. Sometimes things are great during the honeymoon, only to sour significantly afterwards.

Godaddy has never had hosting as their strong advantage. Good luck with your new provider!

Quite frankly, not surprised about the GoDaddy cancellation. They've been providing horrible service for ages. Overpriced and lacking in features. So many hosts out there to choose, just do the right research and find the right match for you after some trials. That is how I found my holy grail.

I used to use alphaomegahosting.com many years ago and had great service with them. I've also been reading a lot about slicehost.com and so far seem to get good feedback (FYI - I've not used slicehost.com myself).
I colo myself now.

So far, with InMotion, I've experienced fast servers (execution times < 1 sec) 95-99% of the time. Sometimes, I'm guessing during peak traffic, load time jacks up to 4-5 seconds or sometimes even 7-8 seconds. Is that normal for shared hosting for all hosting companies? Other than that, I don't have a single complaint against InMotion.

A short peak here and there is inevitable in a shared hosting environment, but they shouldn't be prolonged. It going on for hours is a sign that something must be done.
You can try and use the free package from Pingdom.com to monitor your site, and get quite accurate reports of any downtime. To a degree, you also get a fair report on how long it takes to load a page (excluding any images etc. that it contains).

It normally lasts only a few seconds, so I guess that's not a problem.

Overall I want to say that's not a problem to find the right company, just think over what you need and you will find the company which suits your demands.

In my point of view, you must do a bit research on internet by providing the details that you have mentioned in the message in order to have the required services and I understand that you would have very competitive and better options for your company there.
You may also take consultations on internet by accessing on the relevant sites where the tutor is available and will guide you about the whole process of hosting.

Glad you left them. They've gotten so bad over the last decade of service. I couldn't stand them even when others considered them still "good".
I'd say move on and try out some other hosts that can provide faster processing for your PHP Scripts.

I heard horrible review about godaddy hosting, so I would say check around talk to web hosting representative and see where you get the best support and order on monthly basis, once you like the support than to save money you can go for yearly plans, as most host offer discount in yearly plans

This time around, I suggest trying out a host before you commit. Any reasonable host will offer a 30 day money back guarantee. Why not try them out and see if it is a perfect fit?

Question. Over the past couple of days, I've experienced more than an hour of downtime, driving my uptime starting from June 26th to now down to 99.71%. When I contacted support, this is what they said:
Quote:
|
Systems administration has identified an issue with the server that houses your account which requires their immediate attention. They are working diligently to resolve this issue which we hope shouldn't take long. Unfortunately, we are limited on details and do not have a timeframe for resolution, but you are welcome to check back with us every so often. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing you and appreciate your patience.
|
Is this normal for paid hosting?!?! I've rarely had this kind of downtime with my old FREE host! Please advise! For those on HostGator, has this ever happened to you? Can you share experiences?
Thanks in advance.
