Page-Zone

My main reason is excellent support but secondary was a hosting plan I could live with.

It has since been removed though due to some program errors but should be back online again soon.

I like that plan because it gives me room to grow as much as I want the site to and I only pay for what I am using in space and bandwidth.

I guess, the or what! But maybe a little crazy too.....I dunno......I am though!

How long have you had them as a host? Do you have good experiences/bad experiences that you want to share?

Well I have known of Jim and Page-Zone for a long time now from alt.www.webmaster newsgroup.

Do I have any bad experiences? Umm nope. If I had then I have forgotten them so they must not have been important.

Good? It has all been good. The price is right and the support is excellent. He also recently started a little news alert to keep all of us hosted with PZ updated on what is going on.

How long... Let me check my records. I save everything. LOL.

okay I had my first domain hosted with them according to my "Welcome to Page-Zone Hosting" letter on January 17th of this year.

So I tested them out since then and I liked them so I decided it was time to go for it.

*plus I had the money at this time*

Hmm I guess I should chime in and update this thread since I am not with Page-zone anymore. I have now moved to Beachcomber and I am on my second year with them. So far so great.

I didn't leave page-zone on a sour note. They are still good. =)

Well, it was either this, or write 15 pieces of spam... it's not like I'm able to give anyone else meaningful advice when I have little experience myself.

Oh well, perhaps I'll go somewhere else then. Thanks for the reply Heidi.

PS: I thought the purpose of the 15-posts was to prevent downright spam...of which, I don't think this is. If I receive helpful replies, I'd be more than happy to help others.

Also, any suggestions on domain registrars would also be useful.
I use Namecheap and can recommend them.

I suggest you use one company for domain registering, and another one for web hosting. Since you're just starting, go for shared hosting. It usually takes quite a bit of time for true success to come.

i like www.amrayhosting.com a lot
after 6 years, i have no problems to say that they are one of the best web hosting companies with years of web hosting experience and solid record of accomplishments

the fact that last year my sites went down for scheduled servers maintenance for less than 120 minutes says it all and combined with piece of mind amray hosting give me, i know my sites will stay online indefinitely

Thanks for the advice.

Sure an ugly site, but their prices look good. What control panel do they use? I can't seem to find it... their support seems to be lacking too... the $20 non-refundable set up fee isn't very nice either... They seem like a pretty small company..which can be both good and bad...

I checked out page-zone and it looked pretty good. Then I clicked on the price to get, what I assumed was more info. And I got this:

Very strange... the order hosting link still worked though just below the price table:

http://service.page-zone.com/order/browse_products.php

I will contact them and let them know. I still consider the owner a friend. =)

Ugly, eh
Why is that? Maybe because our visitors don’t have to jump at least 5 hops to get to the page they want and can get where ever they want from our index page in one click? We could build artsy flashy site with very little and near to nothing content to please your eye but we chose content to please our visitors and if this is looks ugly to you then so be it.

If you tried to find cPanel then you wasted your time. We’re using custom CP that easy to understand and manage for 80 years old grandma.

If 6 technician around the clock and plus 6 on call around the clock is “lacking” for you then good luck to find better.

$20 non-refundable is justifiable cost to deterrent people who use our services to test run their sites and then ask for their money back. People who in this business for long time (apparently you are not one of them) know what I am talking about

Lets see. In addition to Tech Support Department, we have Sales, Accounts, Design, Domain registration and lets not forget our Web Directory Departments. To save a few dollars our management had no choice but to cut off on Security and Abuse Departments, which make us ‘pretty small’ company now.

No..presenting the information up front is good..except that you DON'T convery any more information than any other site. Your nav on the left is a bit difficult to read, and like I said, couldn't find what control panel you were using, and uptime is also a good thing to put on the hompepage, unless you have something to hide (what IS your uptime??)

A demo would be nice. I've used some pretty horrible control panels before. cPanel looks nice, and works fine. This information is also important.

2-6 hour response time vs 30 second response time of other sites? No live chat?

What if it's not to test their site, but to test your services? What if they find out you can't meet their needs?

Well, the slower response times, lack of live chat, the not-so-professional homepage (not that it's important if your services are great), and such suggest that you are smaller than other companies.

As I said, you have NO idea what you are talking about. After you stick around this forum for a while I am sure you will learn thing or two as for example “Uptime information value” which you would find one click away from index page if you bother to click very first link on the left that says “What our clients say about us”

Again, just to make you to understand that you have very little to say if at all. You couldn’t find CP because you never look for one. Any moron with no brains would figure out that if link says “Hosting Help” it may help them to get some information and would check that link but because you are intelligent person or at least you’re trying to sound like one, you want link that says “Control Panel” which by the way in the list of priorities in the last place. Hey, I don’t blame you, because I understand that on your list CP is #1

Ah, famous 30 seconds response time from call center somewhere in India by incompetent call operator who will collect from you some data and then send it to technicians so you can get some help in 2 – 3 days. At least we guarantee help within 2 hours and for people such as yourself who want to chat more than buy, 6 hours. Oh, BTW normally our technicians will get back to you with “everything is working now Sir” within an hour.

As to “What if it's not to test their site, but to test your services?” we offer 333 days money back guarantee and promise that our customers will get in full what they paid for. Sorry pal, but after 8 years in business, we would prefer if "testers" test one man operated from the basement or Bedroom companies with lots of time on their hands to chat with you

You mean the companies (we all know who they are) who bought their reputation from web hosting directories by paying them big money for being called “Top 10”? Yes, we are smaller than them but big enough to provide quality service. So next time you talk about subjects you have no idea, listen first to people who had and continue to use our services for years and who are expressing their opinions based on experience and not just: “blah, blah, blah. Look people how “smart" I am blah, blah, blah.

Hey there, it's nothing worth fighting about. fastreplies, I know how you feel. I know how it is when others don't appreciate your hard earned work, and it looks like that is exactly what is happening. Keep in mind that many hold their own opinion, so unfortunately, no one can appeal to all! Just keep your head up high knowing that you have a strong customer base, whom have all accepted the fact that you are the host for them. This is definatley something you should be proud of.

Darkzerox, you are entitled to your opinion, but please refrain from rubbing it in others face. Stating your opinion is a great thing, and very helpful, however please don't be a jerk about it.

I have not read the whole thread so I may be out of line, and if I am, I apologize to whom it may concern.

Go easy on each other guys !
