I received an email from lunarpages saying that I have to pay $19.95 to renew my domain.

So lunarpages only offer one year limited free domain name? Since when?

I think 19.95 is WAY much too expensive. Any idea?

I have lunarpages for hosting. I expressly never signed up on lunarpages for their domains as I always keep hosting separate from domains. Switch to GoDaddy and have the DNS setup to use the lunarpages host. It'll save you.

Of course they do, it's a marketing ploy to get your business

you REALLY should read things PROPERLY

Never, ever take up a "free" domain offer from a webhost, if they don't sting you financiaally you may find that the domain was registered in their name, not yours!

Get your domains cheap from godaddy and point the dns, its the easy way to always get the best hosting deal.

Try to transfer it to a cheaper registrar. You should be able to find some that ask ~$10 per year.

Lunarpages' "Free Domain for the first year of your hosting plan." is quite atypical. Most of their direct competitors either don't offer a domain with the hosting, or do so for as long as you host with them.

Thanks for you guys.

Now I make it clear, they offer one year free domain name for customer after August 2008. And I regitered with them in November, so I have to pay for my domain.

Now I trasferred my domain to Godaddy, and it's much cheaper, and my question is:

Will this domain transfer affect my rankings? I am really concerned. I think they will update my domain details (I used different address when I registered with Godaddy since I moved)?

Thanks, guys.

I believe domain transfer will not affect the ranking. however you need to know that cheap hosting like lunarpage have marketing catch. They let you host for $10 per month but they higher the cost of domain name. They let you have unlimited bandwidth and space but they will limit on processor, memory and database usage.

I have experience with lunarpage. when my site visitors increase to 400 visitors per days, they will suspend you and ask you to upgrade to VPS or Dedicated hosting. This process take up to 3 weeks. Can you imagine, your website suspend for 3 weeks?

I assume if you need you should pay for it - just to save the domain name. After domain name renewal you will transfer it to another domain name registrar
The main aim for now - not lose the domain name

Thank you for the hints.

Can you tell me what CMS you use? I could not imagine that you got suspended for merely 400 visitors, thanks.

That seems indeed quite strange. Even if they were really active and viewed 20 pages on average, it would still be only 8K page views per day. Something seems off.

A similar thing happened to me. I used to host with Lunarpgaes. A few months ago I started promoting some of my blog posts a little more than usual, which brought in more traffic. Twice Lunarpages shut my site down for using too much server resources. I moved the site to a VPS I had and Lunarpages refuses to give me a refund for the remaining time on my hosting account.

Not the brightest move considering I end up choosing where many of my clients host their sites. So for about $65 Lunarpages just lost several thousand dollars over the life of my client's sites. Not to mention the recommendations they'll no longer be getting.

In fairness to Lunarpages similar things happen on a lot of shared hosting accounts. Shared hosting works fine until you start getting some traffic.

The banner issue is being worked out. It may take a few days so I hope you'll be patient. It is being worked on though.
