What do you look for in a web host?

What would make you pick a hosting company out of the rest?

If the company is reputed and in business at least for last 2 years then we may choose that company as our host. I would first list out the functions that my web application need and then before signing up at any hosting company, I would consult their support where these functions are supported or not.

I would also ask for a download link to test the server speed.

$Price, a 99.9% guaranteed uptime, assistance by phone, not just by email, business hours for assistance.

Reliability, Service, and a nice combination of the two. I pay quite a bit more than I need to for hosting, but its someone I have been with for a long time and is super reliable, if there is even a chance of downtime for maintenance I am warned well in advance so I can temporarily move things if needed.

I believe they are the ones which not depend on the web hosting just on the kind of CP web host using.

For me, above all, it would be definitive proof that the service is stable. Next would be proof that support is there when you need it.

for me I would look for the best service that they can give like for example quick response to the emails if something goes wrong with the site that you have. then a very good up time no glitches and further more a very good price for there package.

I suppose that is the option available for VPS and higher not on the shared or reseller accounts on major web hosting providers

Over all reliability and a great support,that will be my prime concern.

You want a hosting service provider that is INNOVATIVE. One that has the most current versions like ASP.NET MVC, (and will be preparing for ASP.NET 4.0, Visual Studio 2010, and Silverlight 3.0). A custom control panel would also be beneficial versus relying on 3rd party control panel software.
