As a hosting company, we are always looking for ways to better enhance our packages and support. I am looking today for you to tell me (no holds barred here folks) what you want in your hosting packages. This is beyond levels of customer service, uptime or the like. I am looking for more of what you need out of a host technically and with what services you need.

Such as:
Amount of DiskSpace
Amount of Bandwidth
Types of Services (Installed APs, etc)

Please let me know

An easy to use, free site builder. Limited templates are fine, but have a way to customize the banner and logo.

Site usage reports in plain language. I can understand, "You're using 1.5 gigs of your 5 gig disk space," but I'm not sure what the bandwidth info means.

If my site is approaching the upper limit of the package I have, let me know ahead of time so I can clean out some of the disk space or determine what to do about bandwidth overages.

---

Take a look at the services Bravenet.com offers. They don't permit user scripts on their free hosting level, but they have a lot of services their users can integrate into sites.

Easy to use FTP with multiple file capabilities. Drag & drop would really be great.

Out of curiosity what is the minimum bandwidth and diskspace that you need?

Hello LeviD,

I am going to supply a link, this is what I have and this is what I need, mainly looking for unlimited. I was with a hoster for many many years, well satisfied, unfortunately the service was just hosting, although the gentleman fixed up a few things for me over the years such as a shopping cart. The last thing I inquired about was MySQL Databases, the gentleman mentioned when I signed up I didn't ask for this service. Well when I signed up, there was no such thing as MySQL Databases.

Why do you look for unlimited? Don't you prefer to have a clearly established limit?

@gistek, many cPanel hosts have this so when you are looking that is a good place to start. Bandwidth is your amound of transfer, basically each page on your site is so big (taking up disk space) each time it is loaded that site is sent over the internet. You have so much data you can send.

@ the OP. When I'm looking for a shared host, I am looking at clearly established limits that I can monitor, as well as a way to monitor them. I see unlimited disk space and bandwidth and I run. Many people experianced with web hosting and being a webmaster are the same way. Most people are getting tired of the hidden CPU and horribly strict ToS's which allow them to suspend you for the slightest thing. I look for a host that is not grossly overselling. If I see dedicated server specs for a shared price I run. I want realistic space and bandwidth limits. I don't care if you oversell, I oversell. There is nothing wrong with it as long as you monitor it and have servers set aside for migration as well as capital sitting off to the side in case of a client trying to use what you promised they could.

Keep in mind the average site uses less than 5 GB of bandwidth and 1 GB of space.

I assume Randy you are asking me....

Before I went with the old hoster I checked into Earthlink and some of the other big hosters, there were limits and they also charged extra if you went over the limit to your site from traffic. The old hoster had a limit as well, but not with traffic to your website, a few months later he opened it up to everyone for unlimited. This meant I don't have to worry about space, etc, I can add as many pages as I want, design what I want without worrying about extra charges etc or anything else. I have never been suspended for anything, but then again the sites are constantly monitored on my end, old files are deleted new ones uploaded.

I believe that you need to look at your competitors and see what they are offering and then have approximatelly the same prices. You should be better for the customer service (much more important)
