Hmmm....Free hosting: not much support, ads, downtime, after 3 months site can go down.
Reliable Paid Hosting: Reliable interface and support, 99.9% uptime, site can never go down unless banned to misuse, no ads.
When I say reliable paid hosting I mean those that can be trusted like for example, lunarpages, hostgator, and the like.

free hosting = you get what you paid for. That's about what you'll make off the sites, too, on average

Well I have used a post for hosting type free hosting site for 3 years now and I haven't had any problems at all. all features are like paid hosting get 10 GB bandwidth and 250 MB space and forum support which is quick too. I have used it to earn money all these 3 years. So not all those free hosts are bad it all depends on one find.

If you want support, quality, reliability, uptime etc... you have to pay for it, and seeing as the cost for paid hosting is not that much these days, it's far more worth it to buy hosting than get poor free hosting and endure the headaches.

Free hosting is not reliable way of hosting your website. Free hosting companies can put adds on your website and can go away any time without informing you. It is not always cheap as it will not provide reliable web hosting services. Paid hosting is best as it is also available at affordable prices. You will be supported by company all the time. It will provide you reliable and quality web hosting for the money you paid. I know one leading web hosting company that provides the Affordable web hosting. You can know more about this company at: www.IWIHosting.com

Agreed with everyone else, you should always go for a paid solution Plenty of reputable hosts out there who can give you a good deal, most of them mentioned in this thread.

hehe did you heared despite no free lunch.if you are a fresh man, just need to play ,it doesn't matter free or not .but eventually ,you will establish a real website, you must have a company which is host provider ,of course not free to support you ,at that time ,you have to redirect your old domian name or rebuy a new host, all of PR and SEO lost ,what a pity...

From the post before me about 000webhost. I used you guys for about 2 weeks. My website was down almost every day and I had so many frustrations. I actually chose to go with a paid webhost because of you guys. The customer support is almost non-existent also I submitted a post on the forums then checked it 2 weeks later to see if i had any replies and still 0 replies.
That being said, always go with paid web hosting. Free webhosting will hardly ever provide you with customer support. Do you really want your business in the hands of something that is hosted for free? Customer support is a big issue when it comes to hosting.
Free web hosting will also have more downtime than paid. Since you are paying for web hosting, the company should have a guarantee to keep your website up 99.9%+ of the time. If they do not meet this requirement, many hosts will give you a month free or at least let you cancel your subscription.
I have done the whole "free web hosting" scene before, and the time it takes to find a really good free web host is not worth it. Going with a paid one is your best bet. There are tons of great paid hosting companies out there. Hostgator, Justhost, and GoDaddy just to name a few. However, always make sure that the host provides what you need before going with them.

Nice pros and cons here and I agree with most of them. But at the same time I have to admit that people do not think about this and they just want everything for free plus support included

Free host can go down any day and you can loose all your data.
So alway think for paid host for reliability and stability of your website.

Theres a lot of free host bashing here and a lot of what is being said is simply not true. Sure there are bad ones out there but they are not all bad.
I'm running a free hosting site right now and we do not force ads on customer sites nor to we do anything shady such as sell your information. We have ads on our main pages and in the control panel that your users will never see. Obviously you don't want to host a major website on free hosting, but for people that just want to run a blog, a hobby website, a forum, etc. free hosting is perfect for these things. Why pay 5 bucks a month to host a blog when you can have it hosted for free.
Do some research and find a reliable host and you'll be fine.

Each business should bring profit. In this case where is your profit if you give and do not ask for something in return

Why is it so hard to understand that free hosts make profit from ads on their main pages and in the control panel as well as offering paid upgrades etc???
A free host with good support and a reliable server is no diff then your paid host other than the fact that you charge for webspace. A lot of free hosts have reseller programs in order to offer upgrades to paid hosting as well, you can't logically look at every single free host and tell me that they are shady and not making a profit. Thats like me saying your hosting site is a rip off because its paid and mine is free when I know nothing about your site....
Edit: by the way there are plenty of paid hosts out there aren't worth the 4 dollars you pay them, don't think that because its a paid host they are better, do your research.
