Dedicated IP's are used for SSL certificates. They are a unique address that is not shared between hundreds of websites. Your business plan includes an ssl cert. You have to request the ip and cert through the ticket system.

You can use the dedicated IP even if you don't use SSL.

Some people are quite adamant that a dedicated IP is of some SEO use, but I've never seen any evidence to support that view.

Your dedicated IP (e.g.: x.x.x.x) allows you to access the site directly by IP without putting in the domain name.

Its also used for SSL like everyone else has mentioned.

A Dedicated Internet Protocol Address Is general Useful If you have an E-commerce Website by your Hand.
It is generally advisable Too.
You can actually type the ip Address as the Universal resource locater in the Browser and your Website will come up.
Example:
you can type in "23.232.232"(just an Example) in the browser and your website ex:
abc(dot)com will come up.

Warm Regards.

Dedicated/unique IP address is unique to your domain name and your space on the server. This means that if someone types in the numeric form of the IP address the same domain will always appear in the browser. Dedicated IP addresse is a must-have if you intend to accept credit card payments on any of your sites.

Sometimes people just want to have dedicated IP to be separated from the neighbors. That is being offered mostly for the SEO benefits.

I assume this doesn't apply if you're using a cc processing company like ccbill, etc.?

Pretty much what everyone has been saying is correct....Definitely don't need one for SEO, which the Google guy has said for years.

Dedi IP's for SEO is a myth started by someone that is sitting back laughing at 75% of the internet, and 98% of "SEO Experts." Google tells you everything you need to know for SEO, and they have stated before that Dedicated IP's do nothing for SEO.

IP Addresses are starting to run short in the world now and you are usually required to produce some sort of justification to get it. If you are going to have an SSL on your site, you need it. If you aren't, don't worry about it.

IP is one of the main indexes for google and your web site might be banned there due to the neighbors on the same IP

It makes no sense to do that for Google, in a world where the vast majority of sites use shared hosting, and are otherwise totally unrelated. It's like arresting all the inhabitants of an apartments block, just because one of them turned out to be a thief.

And you have no idea what you're talking about. Google doesn't ban IP's, they ban sites. Good try though.

I see a lot of ideas here and I would recommend OP have dedicated IP only in case you need it.

Each virtual host has a different IP address. The web server is configured with multiple physical network interfaces, or virtual network interfaces on the same physical interface. The web server software uses the IP address the client connects to in order to determine which web site to show the user. The primary reason for a site to use a dedicated IP is to be able to use its own SSL certificate rather than a shared certificate.
