Well, there are many and you can use any of them.
I think that all of them are quite same.

I use freehostia... it's great until you need to trouble shoot your php and upload a lot in a short period of time to figure out your problem because it locks you out. But I'd imagine all free hosts will do the same. :\ Don't really care though, it's free and I can't complain much when I'm not spending any money.

I think the best FREE solution is to make your own box into a webserver if you are only looking for a place to mess around with code. Something that I've been meaning to do, but for some reason haven't... Anyways make a LAMP or WAMP for you people that don't want to spend any money and are willing spend some time setting it up.

For latest reply, freehostia is good and secured, yes, but without php(mail) function and without any socket in php. You can't send any mail from a dynamic website (for example for notification, registring, member validation ...).

You can have a quality paid webhost for little money. I don't understand people who take free host. I'm using PowWeb for 7 years.

000webhost.com is a good free host, I would suggest you pay for self hosting its just better and its pretty cheap now a days. If you just want to try out I guess free is the way to go.
