Why would anyone buy hosting for $60.00 a month?

Shared hosting can sell for even higher prices. The thing is to provide value behind that price. A small business might not be properly served by a $6 hosting account.

Lots of webmasters forums will have advertising sections as well, and could be less crowded in terms of competition.

If the server costs $60.00/m why not just cut the middle man (the host). You'll get more for your money.

I have to respectly disagree with you. I think most small businesses buy way more hosting than they really need because they are convinced "bigger is always better". Unless you are running an ecommerce site or a high traffic site almost all shared hosting accounts from a reputable host will do just find.
The gross over-sellers make their profit from these mis-informed people.
The "average" new site uses less than 100mb od disk space and a gig or two of bandwidth. Usually far less of both.

Hello,
Since you are having a hard time making your payments maybe its time for you to think about downgrading? I'm not sure if you are on a dedicated server, vps or master reseller but maybe its time to downgrade to the next lowest package. $60.00 a month is pretty extreme. Best of luck to you.

You have a 40 dollar server, and you want to sell hosting for $60.00/month. God knows how much you're going to oversell - and how bad this server REALLY is. Chris pointed out that you don't know the first thing about management anyway.
SO, you not only want to over price the service - but also provide a very ****ty experience. That's going to make one person very, very mad.
Don't take this the wrong way.

I've not problem with that. All I was saying was that accounts can be expensive for a reason. It is pretty clear now that the OP's have no reason to be so though.

Which can only be a very low entry server, using desktop grade hardware. Hosting is not a get rich quick scheme, especially with the competition these days. It takes a lot to build a customer base.

The point is that you'll need a customer base, as Dan mentioned, and not just ONE BIG client.
Basically, this website alone tends to be a wonderful place to advertise your hosting. Earn some respect around some of the larger (webmaster related) forums, and people will be interested in what you have to say, and offer.

Well the truth is everyone is finding it hard, i have server bills of over 200 a month, they used to be 400 but i cut back due to the times, when the economy gets better i will probably go back to normal but at this time i have adverts in a uk magazine costing me £400/pcm and my own flat rent is £400/pcm oh and i was recently made redundant but have my own business to fall back on, but my point is $60 isn't much you should budget for things like that.
TBH i shouldn't have started my advertising but i started it before i got made redundant so and you cannot just sell dedicated servers you have to be professional where are you going to get the servers from, what commission will you make from it lets say you buy a dedicated server for 60 and you sell it for 80, you got 20 bucks in your pocket then but remember its not about the money, the customer will want upgrades etc, if you cannot afford your server then you should have sold something to keep up with the payments, remember you should always put your customers first which is why i will always lose my flat etc for my customers because they pay you to keep your site up, review your prices i googled your site and found your selling hosting for $2 your crazy and it says unlimited there is no such thing as unlimited disk space, a hdd costs alone like $20 a month or maybe 60usd for the drive if you fit it yourself so how can your $2 a month hosting warrant for such, the answer is it cannot, review them or you will go under i have been doing hosting and web development for since 1996 and along the way especially recently i lost clients due to the economy but have enough to sustain me which is why you cannot afford to just say oh i need x clients to pay the server than thats it you have to let a client pay like $5 each maybe and give them respectable amounts of space/bandwidth etc then you should be able to afford your server, it won't fix your issue in 5 days but will allow you to put money aside for later days when you may lose clients or other issues arise remember with servers things need replacing a cheap 60usd a month server the datacenter will have cutbacks so you will have to pay for things like an os reload

Well. What do you do? If you are web designer you vcan include web hosting to the list of the services you provide to your customers with web design services.

So now $60 annual package sticked with your web design or web development offer might look quite attractive. Do not sell that separately. Sell that to your web design customers.
