I think i've seen people ftp files from a browser using ftp://ftp.mysite.com Can this be done. How would I implement this. I'm using Linux at lunarpages.

I want to find the easiest way for a client to be able to regularly upload a single xml file, in order to update a jobs section, because i've set up an XSLT page for this.

The easiest thing to do is probably build a form for them that allows them to upload a file to the server. You might want to password protect the form so only they can upload a file.

With many of my clients I just walk them through the process of uploading a file through an FTP program, usually Filezilla. Once I walk them through once they can usually upload a file again after that. If you can get them to use Firefox there's a plugin to allow FTP. Maybe more than one. FireFTP I think is the name of one.

If you're worried about them uploading to the wrong place or messing up something via FTP building a simple form is probably the easiest solution for your client.

if you use ftp://ftp.url.com then a popup login screen should come up asking for username/pw for the ftp server. you can login and upload the files that way. or use a basis ftp program (i use CoffeeCup which does the job just fine) and save password so that you dont have to enter it every time. login to your ftp server using the ftp client and upload to proper folder

I think FilaZila would be a good choice and to us it would be simple to use. I think it looks complicated to look at and the client would be a little overwelmed by it.

I'm hoping to upload using ftp://ftp.mysite.com as this would be simple. But when I type this in, in the browser it takes me to a blank screen, when i'm expecting it to ask for a username and password.

I think the files will be put in the public_ftp folder, I first thought it was permissions. Maybe I should ask my host.

Typing ftp://ftp.mysite.com to a browser in WindowsOS allow easy upload and download after filling up the login information. Your browser probably doesn't support this type of execution for FTP.

the first thing you need to create the ftp user in the hosting panel then you need to enter the same ftp.domain name in the browser..then the page asks for authentication..then you can enter your create ftp user / pass and enter click on the link of the folder then the folder opens then you can copy the page from the local PC and then paste it in the ftp directly it will work...

Listen to a few of the posters above, your best option is to download FileZilla. It allows you to upload/download files in a windows explorer environment just as if you were looking through a directory.
