HI. I am designing a new web page (using WP :>) and I looking for a good hosting provider in UK.
My question is:
1. Does it really matter where the server is ? in USA, Canada, UK. Does it make any difference? Host Papa has a very good offer but the servers are in Canada?
2. What host provider would you recommend? Is Host Papa any good? (They have servers in canada.)

Use the word "Unlimited" three times and their servers are in Toronto

Not a good sign for a "UK" hosting company.

From a SEM/SEO perspective it can matter, it takes a little more work to get UK results when hosted on an IP outside of the UK. Especially if you have a gTLD (.com, .net etc) instead of a ccTLD (.uk)
There is also latency to take into account when requests and responses have to be sent through the transatlantic links. If your target audience are predominately UK the extra (very small) delay can become significant if your website creates a lot of requests.

I think it does not matter that much where country the host is located. I would prefer to go into the details of the plan and whether they are proven to be reliable or not.

If the host manages to keep their servers all neat and tidy, the location shouldn't have a noticeable difference on the actual web site.

If your user base is from UK, you must get a UK host with UK IP. That should help in google UK and other search engines. UK host with candaian datacenter will not help

Its best to host your website in the country that you are targetting. This way those users will receive the best speed for your website.

I have heard that Marblehost.com Data Centers were located in US and UK. I have found it to be reliable, honest and competent with its clients. The old adage, "you get what you pay for", seems most appropriate in this case, and I would rather pay that few extra dollars for their reliability and competence than to find my sites down for long periods at a stretch, costing me more money than the few bucks I can save in hosting fees.
