I hate that you end up getting just what you need... perfect amount of space, perfect amount of bandwidth, say maybe, perl, cgi, php, mySQL, e-mail accounts... then you get this tuff that you don't need because your running a personal site or a church site, like shopping carts and frontpage extensions and just all kinds of stuff that you'll never use. Do people really use frontpage that much!? What's a girl to do? I want a host that gives me what I need and only charges me for what I need. Any places ya'll can point me?

Well Since most OS come with that stuff installed our perhaps just a click to install. Your not really getting charged for all that. Basically you are being charged for The Space and Bandwidth you use. We are having 50% of all our plans until the end of the year if you want to check it out.

Most of these features come built in with the control panel that's installed on the server, in most cases you really arn't paying for them. They are just bonus features that are there if you want to use them.

And yes, alot of new webmasters use frontpage. Good luck in finding a host.

GMSmoothie is right of course. Even if you'd want just ftp hosting, the space and the bandwidth would still cost the same and they're two of the the main costs in hosting. Now, the needed support in that scenario would be minimum so that could mean a more serious drop in the price. However, if you're just looking for hosting without shopping cart and frontpage, the cost for the host would be basically the same so it can't offer a sensible discount. That's why most hosts offer all of these "useless" features.

Check out http://www.jiffynet.net/

I have used them for years, yes they have all those bells and whistles but at very attractive prices.

oooOOOooooo

They make it sounds like, "Choose us, we offer all this great junk!" lol Makes sense.

BTW, so far, Shyper's been a great host. Haven't had any trouble with them. Still crossing my fingers though.

And ipowerweb has been fine too, for my church site tcogga.org.

Thanx guys.

One site that I have found that truly tries to give honest reviews is
http://whreviews.com/
There are very few "honest" review sites out there and it is difficult to find a good authority.

I've used SynergyWorks.co.uk - on their menu they have a "Custom Package" bit.
If you drop them an email or phone they'll haggle (which I love!!) and create you
a custom hosting package to your spec. Prices are good too, been with them 2years.
