Their price seems reasonable, but try to stay away from unlimited bandwidth host.

also they technically dont have to provide 99% uptime because they dont say there is a 99% uptime guarantee - they simply state '99% uptime'. check them out at siteuptime.com

Whats wrong with unlimited bandwidth hosting?

Surely if the hosting provider is a good one at a competative price and offers guaranteed up-time of 99% or more, having unlimited bandwidth would be a good thing!

There is no such think as "unlimited" bandwidth. Period.

Everyone has to pay for bandwidth, and people are allotted a certain amount per month. Most people, and most sites, will hardly make a dent in bandwidth...but, if you have a site that has tons of, say, flash games and video clips. Your site becomes popular, and starts to get thousands of hits a day, everyone downloading 500K flash games or 2MB video files. You can bet this will put a strain on the host and they will (1) make you pay more for the extra bandwidth you are using, or (2) shut your site down.

Companies typically can get away with overselling because usually no one comes close to maxing out the usage according to their plans...but the host, just like you, still has to pay the bill for bandwidth (the same goes for space too).

Stay away from Sonoma Hosting

I too thought they offered a good plan, but they have been nothing but trouble.

I have had ongoing problems with emails not reaching me - no bouncebacks, just never arrive.

In the early days, they were helpful, however (I just counted) I now have 10 unanswered emails from tech support.

There is (to my knowledge) only one person there - someone called Nick who seems to be sales and support (and most recently ignorer of my emails)

I am in the process of switching after the umpteenth problem with their mail server (I have huge difficulties receiving large attachments, constantly times out and refuses subsequent connections) - I am not sure whether this is the hosts fault or not - but either way, surely tech support should answer the emails out of common courtesy to a paying customer.

I am happy to provide more information on them if you have any enquiries - I will leave my Yahoo mail here, as the POP based one Sonoma gives me - ill probably never see

I have to agree there is no hosting company that is going to provide unlimited banwidth with out charging for it. We have people go over their quota at times and we allow this but we do monitor this quite closely and if this was happening every month per say 4 months in a row then we will send the client a invoice of what thier banwidth usage was for the 4 months and what we suggest to purchase to make us happy and them.

I have been incredably happy with my host, and it's prices are insane cheap.

check out globedomain.com

100 MB space, 1 GB xfer/month = $4.50 per year

tech support has been fast, I've never had to wait longer than a couple of hours for a reply or more than a day for a fix. (all problems were my fault except one)

First impressions wouldn't really show them to be a top choice. When looking for a host make sure you check YES to the following:

Do they have phone sales/support?
When something goes wrong it's always good to know there's someone you can actually talk to!

Do they have client testimonials along with websites?
Testimonials are easy to make up. Make sure that their website has testimonials with corresponding websites so you can follow up any claims with existing customers.

Do they have a clear server-fill policy/uptime guarantee?
Lots of hosts are only interested in getting as many hosts onto a server as they can without regard to server performance. Make sure this isn't the case and quiz them! If you know more than the host you should look elsewhere.

And yes, you only get what you pay for. Even the top hosts today don't offer unlimited bandwidth! (Someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Hope that helps!
