I have bought a domain name. I had it pointed to a webhost with ads for a short time while I got the other host up and going. It has no ads. Both are free hosts.
Well I pointed my domain to the other host by setting the name servers and now my domain has been down for 2 days and I even went and got another host and tried pointing it to their name servers and nothing happens.

I can provide a link and so you know I am not advertising I will break it up so it wont link to it. I just want help getting it up again as I want to get on with it.

Well... the nameservers aren't providing any info. for your domain name - i.e. ns1.myhosting247.com returns: "can't find cowsgonemadd3.com: Server failed"

So that's your problem. I guess ns1.myhosting247.com is probably the nameserver provided by your new free host? If that's the case you should talk to them about why it isn't working, but unfortunately this is the risk of using free hosts (as you probably already know) - reasonable hosting isn't that expensive... a few £ or $ pm shouldn't hurt?

I am just getting the site up. It has no traffic as of now so why waste 4 bucks a month on hosting I do not need? I am getting a blog and a few pages set up and I really just needed something to simply host it and let it work until its done and got a bit of traffic.

So its all about the name servers? I have tried 3 hosts now and only one worked when I pointed the name using the godaddy software.

To avoid problems like this

Since it sounds like you changed the DNS info a few times already, calling Godaddy may be your best (and quickest) bet (480) 505-8877.

4$ a month is pretty easy to make with almost any website
I would suggest dropping the coin for a better host

Well depending on your internet provider and how quickly their refresh their cache, it DNS changes can take up to 3-4 days depending on where you are in the world. Honestly, by 24 hours most should see it, 48 hours it should be pretty much done but its a good rule of thumb to wait 72 hours before you start to panic.

I would make sure the DNS they gave you points towards the server your located on. thats my only bet.

Well the "last" time I changed it it took just a few minutes or wait that was the first time I pointed it to a host. 4 bucks is easy to make with a site you say? I had a site a year ago and in 2 years it made about 20 bucks. I got only 4000+ hits though so I did not promote it heavy. I plan to do more with this site so I want it to hurry up and get up and going. I might give godaddy a call or a email then.

Yes its true, Sometimes it change in just a few minutes but mostly it takes a day before your changes take effect.

i guess it all depends on what your doing or what you want to do with the site.

honestly though, if you actually have a job $4-$10 isn't much to pay a month.

I just would like to add something.
Sometimes people have troubles their ISP related and I just want all of you understanfd that. But every time all think that it due to the web hosting related issues.

hence i added that bit on my post earlier... some broadband providers have sites cached and reset them for some time... we've had some customers who experienced this issue and once they gave their ISP a call, their site was up within the day.

I'm sure you can afford to buy proper hosting right? I think thats what you need instead of messing around with free hosts.
