Best way to buy and host a website?

When you buy a website off someone else - do you transfer over to your own host - or do you have to use their host?

I've got plenty of room on my host so I'm looking to buy some websites to add to my adsense income - however I want to host them all in one place.

What is the process to transfer the domain name, files, etc.

Copy the files to the hosting account. Don't forget the database(s). Test that the site works fine in the new location. Change the domain's nameservers, to make it point to the new server. Wait for a couple of days so that the propagation has enough time to fully end.

If you want to transfer the domain to your preferred registrar, it is a different process, and you initiate it from the destination registrar. Their help/FAQ files should details the exact steps to take.

ldcdc covered it very well. Generally you just transfer to whatever host you use.
