My web host is an utter joke
. I've been complaining to them ever since i joined. Recently i complained about error messages being generated while uploading files. Firstly they said no errors were found (that i'm a liar), several times after that they told me everything is fixed, without actually fixing anything. Finally they turned off php error messages and told me everything was working! I complained again and they told me there was in fact a website and it was working. If you're looking for a cheap host, DO NOT choose streamline. Do i have any rights which i can confront them with to get them to do some work? I've already tried threatening to leave them but they asked for a confirmation to cancel the subscription.

How much did you pay for the service?
Leaving is not a good option, if they really pissed you off you can start complaining threads on all the hosting forums to let potential buyers know they suck. |

Unfortunately this is to be expected when purchasing "cheap" anything - remember that total cost isn't just the purchase price, and therefore when purchasing anything you need to consider the overall value of the offer rather than just the money you'll pay out.
Put simply, if something's cheap it will almost certainly mean that that particular offering is saving money somewhere. This can come from increased efficiency, or lower profit margins, but most likely it's because they have cut corners somewhere. In terms of hosting, it's easy to save significant money by buying cheaper servers, poor quality bandwidth, outsourced/low quality support staff etc. In some cases, it just turns out that the support staff don't know what they're doing because they're a new company / bedroom operation ![]()

Usually the best way to make somebody do things for you is to pay them, but if you pay and get no feedback, then it's time to pack your things and move.
Damien, what's bedroom operation, i wonder?))

It could be whatever you want it to be...Double entendre's aside, I was referring to someone (usually just a single person) running a hosting company as a second income whilst unavailable most of the time due to their main job (of school/college!). IMO The issue with streamline sounds to be more that they don't know what they're doing rather than them not trying to help. Of course, without knowing the full details and both sides of the story etc. it's not possible to comment on this fairly - perhaps the OP didn't explain the problem to them clearly or the fault/issue is intermittent in nature and therefore difficult to isolate/troubleshoot. To reiterate, without knowing the full details it's really difficult to pass judgement on streamline - there are times when turning PHP error reporting down results in "fixing" a problem since bad coding can result in notices/warnings that don't stop things working, but the fact they have sent output to the page can break other things such as attempts to write headers etc. (which can't be sent after other output). Overall, if they give you the impression that they don't care and aren't helping, there are plenty of other hosting providers around; there must be at least one of them which cares about its customers enough to provide a high quality support service.

My friend paid for it and bought 2 years worth without telling me, so i've got another 1 1/2 years left :\
It's not my coding because the errors on a vbulletin forum. I've really learned my lesson with buying cheap things. My ISP for example didn't know how to use it's bandwidth capping software and capped all gamers badly at peak hours. They're not a bedroom host because they do reply to my support tickets 24/7, it's just not very good support. They asked for my password once, i gave it to them and they asked where the password was in the message. I'm not even sure the support can speak english, more likely have a list of phrases they cut and paste.

Paying for 2 years in advance? Don't think it's a wise decision, will they give him a chargheback?
Off-topic:It seems like a neologism was created in the thread, "a bedroom host", I'm gonne use it.

By the looks of the last message they sent me, they have a basic typing skill (lots of typos), no knowledge of units (telling me i have a 20megabits upload limit) and a poor understanding of the english language (no punctuation what-so-ever).

If it is that bad, you may better leave the host. basically I dont think host could be held responsible for PHP errors. If PHP throws some error, the developer or webmaster must find the reason and ask for the configuration change if at all required.
But their support seems obviously poor. You may need a better host.

It's not a php error. Sorry about the off topic, but is max packet size the same as max upload limit?

At those prices you are getting what you paid for.
Sorry. That is the way it is.

Like a few other people have said, drop 'em! As with anything else, expect to pay for quality.

Change hosts! Customer service is one of the most important things in the hosting business. What happens when you have a site raking in $100/day, your database goes down/you get locked out of your account/ something goes wrong and they take a week to get it back running? Get a host that has quick support that's friendly and willing to help.
