It's a rather large forum and was curious if they'd share (or if anyone here knew) what hosting company they used? I have a forum that is rapidly growing and when I get around 250 or so active users I start getting database errors.

This site loads fast and carries a lot of active users with ease. If the owner or admin can send me a link with a referral code I'll purchase the hosting and you can get credit.

Thanks, those database connection errors are killing me.

I don't know who Tim uses, but which host do you use?

Right now I'm using a shared box with Bluehost. I haven't had any really bad experiences with them but if the site continues to grow there will be issues. It's a sports related forum and blew up during the Playoffs and Superbowl. When I had 200 users online I was receiving the "CPU has exceeded" error message and the database connection continued to drop.

I like Bluehost, never had a problem with them but for processor hungry scripts and over 1,200 members, this could get real ugly real fast. I'm just trying to nip it in a bud and migrate to a server to handle the traffic. I also want to buy some ad time on our local sports radio channels but will hold off until I know it can handle the traffic. Otherwise I'll be throwing cash out the window of a moving car.

If I were to make a guess, I'd webmaster-talk uses a dedicated server from http://webnx.com/

I'd suggest you should perhaps look to a VPS for now - you should be able to find something suitably scalable for your needs, and easy to move onto a dedi. later (i.e. just move the VPS onto its own server - DDS).

That way you save yourself a bit of money until you really need to upgrade to a full dedi, and when you actually move onto one you'll be ready for something decent - there's not much benefit in cheap dedicated servers anymore since you can get similar performance from a high-end VPS (at a fraction of the price!).
