Does anyone have any experience operating a website using Zope and Plone?

What are Zope and Plone?

As best as I can determine Zope is a type of internet server (written in Python) that uses database driven content instead of html. Plone appears to be some kind of Content Management System (CMS) that runs on top on the server that makes developing content easier. This what I think after looking at Zope and Plone sites. But I was hoping others could inform me better. I have an upcoming meeting in which the other participants are interest in this arrangement.

I don't use it, but I'm looking to collaborate with a group that does. They use it to provide dynamic content to a professional group with various level of access to information based on user type. My own preference would be to focus on the meat and potatoes technologies like PHP and mySQL, which I an endeavoring to master, rather than take on a less mainstream technology. I think they are committed to the software because that is what they have and know. I don't know how this came about.

The fact that it seems no one in this forum has heard of the software is itself something of an answer.

I think yes. And I think that this software need more time to become popular.
