The title says it all! I'm hosting my Site at 1&1. It's been 2 months of hosting. But I've noticed on the past days and these days, my Site took time to load and there are times that the server is down! It really makes me sick! And I'm tired on reporting this to 1&1 support. Because it will just take many hours to reply with my message. 1&1 freaks me out! Can anybody here help me get rid of this? I mean, can I transfer my files into another web host without any files to be touched? My Site is currently using Wordpress. How can I transfer my files into another host without deleting any files? 1&1 really makes me mad. Hope you can help. And by the way, any reliable web host suggestions? Because I really need to change my host as soon as possible.

Before you try anything, backup your files and databases.

Next you find another host, copy your files in the account they give you, test things to make sure your sites are running OK, and then change the nameservers (the host will give you a set of them) to point your domain to the new host. Some hosts might be willing to move your sites for you, but, given that 1and1 uses a proprietary control panel and the transfer would not be automatic, the hosts willing to to this might be quite few. It can't hurt asking though.

Good advice ldcdc

I just want to add that if your Admin Control Panel has Backup function then look for backup Files and MySQL option and ignore system files.

This way you will have all your site intact and all you left to do is to ask your new host to setup your MySQL with user name, password and DB name you used before. You can change password to DB later.

*YAY another one leaves 1and1*

If as i guess the domain is done through 1and1 then i would STRONGLY suggest that before you do anything you check this first.

move files and databases over to the new host.

follow this tutorial which seems to be all fine: http://www.ibrian.co.uk/31-08-2005/h...d1-webhosting/
to transfer the domain to the new host.

i would really suggest you ensure its all working perfectly on the new host so that 1and1 have NOTHING they can control of change give it a couple of days to check, make sure emails are all working etc.

then send a nice email to 1and1 and tell them where to place their hosting lovingly.

i say this because after researching they seem to have a policy of when we are getting money from them be annouying morons, when they dont pay us money... they dont exist and there for we can take the domain and not hand it over, and not stop payments and god knows what.

i dont want to put you off but just want you to be prepared.

BTW if you do go with Wantingawebsite i would apprieciated a mention that it was me who referd you (i dont get anything but makes me a nicer client for them )

Dan, the website you reffered to me was not my plan of choice. I think that hosting Site is too way expensive (for me). I don't have that kind of money this time. Well, anyway, I planned to host my Site at IXWebHosting. Is it okay?

personally i dont like those kinds of hosts, i prefer the smaller ones, so far i have found because theres at max only a few guys running the joint you dont get parsed off from dept to dept and they give you instant answers because they directly benifit from your custome. just my view.

Hope i works our for ya.

@zappanet

You need to back up files and database yourself. Automated moving of site may not work since 1and1 doesn't use cpanel.

Do a search at forums like sitepoint or webhostingtalk. There should be quite a bit of feedback on them, old and new.

Wow! It's odd how everybody has something negative to say about 1&1 yet I've never experienced those problems.

Any company has as good as not really good ones feedbacks, and I think that you have to understand that

Yeh, I've had problems with 1&1. They suspended my account because a domain that I cancelled was up for a renewal a year later. They would not accept that I had cancelled the domain.

My advice is to stay away from 1&1.
