My current "top-pick" for web hosting is bluehost.com. Can anyone give feedback on them or better suggestions (if you leave a new suggestion, explain why). Thank you =)

What country?

If your looking for a UK host I have found evohosting to be really good I have had a couple of different hosting packages with them, you get a good amount of stuff for the money the server quality is realy really good when it comes to speed and downtime. They are also really really useful if you need any help for anything.

I use dreamhost. They oversell some. I pay 9.95/month for 5TB bandwidth and 500GB storage with tons and tons of extras. If you sign up with my promo code, which is TRIBUTEK123, you get a free lifetime domain and $10 off the setup fee. Although, they are offering hosting free for the whole first year if you switch over to them from lunarpages. The promo code for that is on the dreamhost blog.

Good luck...

Another vote (although in a way, it was the original) for www.sectorlink.com . These guys actually get things like supporting customers and handling people like me who, when we have issues or questions, don't fit in the 3" training binder a lot of companies use. When I have a question (which isn't very often), I get it answered...and once, I had an issue solved in 60 seconds. 60 friggin' seconds! It takes most tech support guys 60 seconds just to understand how to spell my last name.

I've got my dedicated box with them, and two of my customers have shared plans with them. And I wouldn't recommend something I don't use and abuse the everloving snot out of.

What sites have good uptime? I see that a lot of sites advertise 99.9% uptime, etc. but what services actually uphold that part of the deal?

Are you asking about a web site monitoring?

Annylurk, I'm asking about reliable hosts. I don't want my site to be down when I need it to be up and running.

Fact is there's no regular host that can always reach 99.9%+ uptime month in and month out, on any server, but there are hosts that, over their entire fleet of servers, will reach and average yearly uptime significantly higher than 99.9%. If you're unlucky, you may still end up on a "jinxed" server though.

Some hosts maintain a list of uptime records (monitored via third party services) that you can obtain from their sales department.

So I guess I'll rephrase my question once more: which host is the preferred host among you guys and the general public?

There is no host that can be considered as the preferred host. I like and have been satisfied with Hostgator, Adam's been happy with Sectorlink, the list goes on. That's the hard truth. The good part is that there's a multitude of hosts that are trustworthy. To think that they're perfect would be a mistake though.

Take Bluehost, which has been the best you've tried so far. I've read reports from users that have had issues with temporary automatic suspensions due to CPU overusage. They argue that their sites have little traffic and should pose no threat to a server's stability. They may be having an issue, but it apparently hasn't affected you thus far, so, for your needs, they're a fine host.

If you want names of experienced hosts that I barely heard 1 bad thing about, I guess I would have to mention Pair Networks, and Futurequest. Never tried them though.

I suppose I'll do more research before I make a final decision. I'm really new to this whole web host and e-business thing.

I do recommend Bluehost they have 99.9% uptime and 1500GB webspace and 15,000GB bandwidth. I'm a customer myself and they keep on upgrading your account all the time.

Beware of some of the offers that web hosting companies make, many use the display more then we have technique knowing most customers won't use 90% of what they offer. If it looks to good to be true, than thats probably the case.
