I use them and they aren't that bad. I've had very little downtime and their email support is decent most of the time. The only thing I can complain about is the fact that they limit your MySQL space to 100mb.

they have fast support but the problem is that support is little use they can only answer simple stuff anything which requires any kind of thought they get stuck or simply do not reply.

i have been using the account for 24 hours. and this is my strong opinion.

The site i am doing is a very small charity site and i would have to pay £10/month to be able to use databases and all i have had is troubles

GRR they just really bad.

the account im using has 400 emails and a ton of space and yet no databases i mean come on wheres the logic?! they are overselling the things you dont use so you are forced to upgarde and get soemthign you wont use...

Dan,

They are not alone and lots of WHC are doing just trhe same.
The problem is plans, you must know what you are buying before you are paying.

I know we had clients who went to 1and1 because their friends told them to do so
and couple month later run back to us because they miss our Support and friendliness
and because 1and1 just another bought and paid for reputation hosting company.

My advice, just leave them and forget them and keep your cool

Thats part of my annouyance tho u probably know i am /have done a charity site and they pay 6 monthly... and they paid 3rd dec so have until June! and of course the scamming 1and1 wont give you a refund

[it took no less than 4 emails and their replies to get a decent answer wheather i could be able to get a refund i would point out]

and as i was asking i got told how you only get refund if within 60 days of ordering (this also changed half the emails say 60 day the other half say 90 so they obviosuly are cluesless!)

just so fustrating.

Lol.

one of those companies who dont give you what you want but make inexperienced people belive they getting amazing deal because they are getting al these bonus features but the simple stuff is missing.

Rant over.

Before choosing a hoster, I used to email a bunch of companies with what I required, inc technical details etc and see what they come back with and for what price.

There is one problem with this method. We call it window shopping.
If you ask our staff: how much, they will send you to our price and included options list and
they won't take any time to reply to chain email.

If you really want to know what we have to offer, you can call our Salesrep.
and discuss your needs in person.

Bigger companies wouldn't even bother with reading your 'how much' email

my 2c.

To be honest i wouldnt look for a hoster, as the charity liason doesnt want it hosted with me (incase i loose interest) i will just be hosting it with my host (wantingawebsite)

I have just looked at it tho, and by my reconing it would be £20 more for the extra cost from Home -> 1and1's Business account.

and yet with wanting a website a account which would do the job is something like 17.99 for 6 months...

And with 1and1's rep i know this is going to be SO much hell getting them to do this right

from all the reviews i have read with people saying that they continued to bill them and didnt close the accounts and everything after people have canceld their contacts im a little worried of the bother this might cause.

Btw, after talking with charity liason he said to upgrade the account to get it working and then change after the paid time is up.

God this is becoming a real nightmare! grrr

why couldnt it have been with a sain cPanel host?!! it would have been SO easy!! Lol

dans: If they haven't provided the service they promised, then do a chargeback. That gives you your money back and they end up with a fee!

I had a client on 1and1 for awhile. They left and went to another host I don't really like: Server Beach.

I can't remember what was so annoying about 1 and 1, but I do remember being annoyed. Server Beach annoys me because their servers change configs and then you have to pay to get them to fix the problem.

EXACTLY why i dropped them, paid the extra money and went with Godaddy. People need to stop cheaping out on hosting and find quality.

Hey Dan: apparently you're not the only one with a 1and1 issue.

(Note: there's probably a much deeper story than what is revealed on that site, but at least the hosting part matches what you're saying.)

Am I hearing you right?
Are you putting godaddy and quality on the same level?

Please tell me you are kidding

Just read that thing adam just google 1and1 review and som of them make you shocked they are still in business.

I even found on review which claimed to be a ex-employee who was harrassed and basically abused as a employee and was sending out a warning to anyone, especially women, who wanted or do work for 1and1.

Dan

Well, I haven't had a single problem yet. I'm not the typical newbie to the web, I know a good bit. 1and1 limits their databases? Pathetic. I know a lot of hosts overuse their hardware (putting 100+ websites on one server) I'm sure 1and1 puts many more.

When I hosted with 1and1 my site went down all the time. I've been with GD for 4-5 months now and not a single problem. EXCELLENT support too, you actually speak to an american who knows proper english. Can you believe it?

I am currently writing a very long email to support, suprising I am quite sarcastic.
