Yeh, I've had problems with 1&1. They suspended my account because a domain that I cancelled was up for a renewal a year later. They would not accept that I had cancelled the domain.

Also, it took then 48 hours to adjust my nameservers. Namecheap do it within 5 minutes. What a joke!

My advice is to stay away from 1&1.

I know they take ages to do things, on my own domains and stuff i can make changes and usually they done or at least for most people within a few hours. one and one i changed the domain info and wasnt visible for days! guh

I've been using 1and1 for 5-6 years now for basic hosting. It's been working out for me.
I'm about to switch one of my customers to their business package but I'm kinda hesitant now, as I read this post. What would you recommend for windows hosting (asp/.NET)?

I cannot believe it, 1 and 1 have just emailed me stating that they are discontinuing "frontpage Extensions" from Feb 26th 2008.

That decission has just cost me a fortune and there is nothing I can do about it. All I can say is stay away from 1and1. After several years, I am on my way out. Anybody suggest a good alternative company? or an easy alternative to frontppage extensions. Thanks in advance

Well if anyone wants a simple shared account (i can do frontpage extension tho have never used them) i can provide a account

If your looking for something larger i can refer you to my host, which is very good.

They are not that bad, but have a lengthy paper trail if you need to switch from and to different domains and upgrades of accounts usually take pretty long - but they are reliable as far as connectivity and uptime... but expensive as well :-)

thats one thing which got me too, i thought for what you got u were getting (or at least what they knew you would actually use!) was a rip off, but it seemed everyone was saying they were cheap :s

All big web hosting companies have bad reviews, because they can't satisfy all specific needs. But that doesn't mean they are bad at all.

right one thing....1and1 they are a company..With hosting & domains etc...There support is ok...( from what i saw on that page) But the support people do not work for FREE they get paid so the compnay has to make so much money to pay them...so if you thing about it in a way they might have crap people because they arnt getting anoth income....Just a thought...

Sorry which part of that am i suposed to see the point of? 1and1 is a very large rather old INTERNATIONAL web hosting company who probably get at a guess count their profits in hundreds of thousands...

My point is, why should my webhost (with which i have only spoken to two people) through the past year and half i have been hosted with them, every support request is answers promptly, and everytime it is helpful. i really cannot say the same for 1and1 this is my big point, when you think about it they should be able to offer a service which is 10 X better than my host.

just looking at the title i knew this would be you dan, yer I agree, especially there support....

a company i was trying to help improve there site, there original site was made by the team at 1&1 who gets paid for making them, he should be fired, the company sent him a word document with a rough image of what they wanted (all made in word) and it came back and he's letteraly taken there drawings made in word and put it on to a webpage...it sucked, it was worse than my very first page!!!...and hes gets paid for doing it.
