Dont laugh. But i've always thought that 1 domain name would need 1 hosting account.

But godaddy.com has a muiltiple domain thing. But im confused about it.

What I want is to have muiltiple websites pointing to the hosting account. But i want the domain names to be unique to the domain name. Is this possible? Like i have 1 domain name called cycleposers.com, if i wanted to register say motofreaks.com and host it on cycleposers.com hosting, can i still have the url motofreaks.com? or wold it have a url of cycleposers.com/motofreaks/ etc..

Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question.

A: Yes, this is possible in multiple domain hosting.

Like i have 1 domain name called cycleposers.com, if i wanted to register say motofreaks.com and host it on cycleposers.com hosting, can i still have the url motofreaks.com? or wold it have a url of cycleposers.com/motofreaks/ etc..

A: You will have both domain (motofreaks.com) and (cycleposers.com) separately but manage through one hosting account control panel.

Multiple domain hosting with one single hosting account is common, your website visitors will not know that they are actually hosting in the same hosting account, only the hosting account admin / website owner will know that

Hope that helps

You can have multiple domains on one hosting account that are managed through one interface. Each domain would have its own DocumentRoot directory to store the files for it. For example, if you have one domain name called cycleposers.com, you could have a directory /cycleposers where you would store your files for that domain. When someone went to http://cycleposers.com/ it would point to that directory. Then for motofreaks.com you would have a different folder for that domain.

Hope that was clear.

Depending on how the host sells there packages will determine how many domains you can host and how you can host them.

Most web hosts will allow you to host as many domains as you like all pointing to the same physical web space, this is called Domain parking or Domain Aliasing and all domains will show the same website when browsed too.

Some Web Hosts (Like us) will also allow you to host multiple domains each with a separate website space in a single web hosting account. These are called Add-on Domains in cPanel (Or just web sites on our Windows plans).

They usually work as sub-folders of your primary web space but act just like separate websites in there own right so browsing to each domain can show a completely separate website.

Hope that helps explain things.

Hello Scorch,

The feature you are discussing is known as Addon Domain in case of cPanel/WHM. Now-a-days each and every hosting providers gives this feature, you can have unlimited addon domains through a single hosting plan.

Links to both the domain will be different and will have separate email account, databases and web pages

Please let me know in case you have any more queries, I will be glad to assist you.

Thank you.

Yes it is possible , You can have multiple domains pointing to same hosting , in fact most of the hosting sites are providing it ,you can have multiple databases for each url and that will support your 2 sites on the same hosting . Sounds fun doesn't it ?

many hosts now a days provide unlimited add on domains and large storage, so you wont need more than just one hosting account no matter how many sites you have. Having said that, all the add on domains will be having same ip in most cases, so you wont be able to link your sites the best way. From SEO point of view, it is better to have differnt class C IP adresses for your sites, so that you can do atleast a one way linking.

One host that offers separate IP addresses for add-on domains is IX web hosting. There are other SEO friendly hosts but most of them charge huge amounts per domains.

None of these matters if you are not going to link your sites!

Well, that's the theory. In practice, if your sites use a good chunk of the CPU, you will eventually be asked to upgrade to a "more dedicated" solution of some type, be it semidedicated, VPS, or dedicated.

Multi domain web hosting has become something common for the shared hosting industry since 2005. There are many companies who offer service like this.
