How many do you think is the most optimal to sell without hurting your directory's PR? Is there a way to assess? What are your views?

well, if the other site links back to your site, and if you carry their link too, then some engines will consider it as a 2-way backlink (link-exchange) and not give too high weightage on that backlink.

SEs simply do not value links that are considered contrived. It doesn't matter in the slightest whether they are one way, reciprocated or any other kind of scheme anyone wants to invent.

useless links are useless links no matter what.

i don't profess to be an expert. That is what i've read abt in more than 1 SEO article/book....
