Do a search on Google for their full URL
http://www.google.com.sg/search?hl=e...G=Search&meta=

They have 4 extra links.

I think these sites are recognized as a good source of information for their niche/topic.

Nope.

It means that Google considers it an authority for the search phrase, and it basically means they have a lot of links with the phrase "alive directory" pointing to their "home" page.

So being the authoratitve source for their own site name is hardly an endorsement or a major accomplishment

You could say the same about;

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&r...ry&btnG=Search

Yup, that's something like what Robert from GoGuides told me. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

But he said that it is not the anchor text but the result of how many people clicking on that result. Something like a search for "Goguides" and if a certain number of people click on it, it may be considered as an authority site for that term.

Did you know that they got recognition as an authority site as well as i always make sure that my sites are listed in it for better results and traffic

I think it is more a status thing than a real authority site.

I believe their algo tells them that quite a number of people searched for their site name.
