Does anyone have a directory that recieves alot of submissions?

My goal is to get around 20 paid submission per day. To date I have only recieved free submissions and reciprocal links.

What type of promotions are best for a directory like mine?

This is good place to get your site listed. best web directories

I didn't link to it becuase I'm burned out Google it.

I used their submission service for my site then my site got listed there as well. They sent me about 100 submissions per day. I got sick of seeing all the submissions without a reciprocal link or paid review so I dropped the free submissions from my site altogether.

If you offer free listings people are less likely to pay for it. My advice is to promote the directory as a free directory for 6-8 months (no paid listings at all), Build some content, Get some links, Then start only offering paid listings. You will get less submisions, But will make more money.

In all honesty I'm not sure how relevant directories are any more. There seem to be a few useful general ones and most of the rest aren't worthwhile.

If you really want to build a successful directory I'd suggest giving an editorial review to every site that wants to be included. You might have to give free listings at first to build it, but even then manually review every site to keep all the junk out. I'd even go out and look for good sites to include whether they submit or not.

Another idea is to keep the directory very niche. Pick a subject, any subject and list the best sites for that subject.

Automated submission directories are a dime a dozen and don't really offer value. I'm not sure how profitable the directory model really is any more, but I think the best way is going to be to build a really really good one with editorial reviews of every site that gets listed.

The original plan was to write a bunch of articles then link the articles to directory sections based on subject matter so people who visit the site can get good information and people who want to list their sites will have access to visitorship from readers. I just haven't committed the time to it yet.

I definately get your point about directories not being relavant. I see so many DMOS clones simples SEO friendly directories it is rediculous. I suppose the original intention has been put on the back burner for my site as of late.

if you write some article you can make it more relevant. You'd be giving people a reason to visit. When I think of stand alone directories now I sometime think of the forum here to add your link to someone's directory. Just think how many of them are in there and they all end up with similar links.

I think if you add something to the directory then you have a better chance of succeeding. I do think you need more than the usual automated software though. If you editorially approve the submissions it can add value to the directory and most of the ones I see that look good manually approve each submission.
