Hello,

Broadly speaking all directories that are not here-today-gone-tomorrow operations 'matter'. Some might matter a little more than others depending your objectives.

What are you trying to achieve in submitting your site to directories? Are you looking to do this without buying in to the higher PR directories?

If you are promoting a blog devoted to web design, then submitting to appropriate niche directories and blog directories might funnel better quality traffic your way. However, if you are commencing a link building campaign then submitting to any permanent directories will help you, higher PR directories might helpyou a little more.

From a personal perspective, in a little over six weeks I was able to elevate a site's PR from PR0 to PR3 simply by submitting to all the directories listed here: http://www.directorytally.com/ with minimal organic link building.

Hope this helps a little.

Cheers,

I think you should submit to as many free directory as you can. No harm to get your links in those directories.
