Does anyone know of a way to get listed in the Yahoo directory free of charge. We are not a non-profit org like most sites. Anyone? Is it possible?

Hi well i see websites tell people about it but i have never tryed them my self i just copyed this froma website for you both

Getting in Yahoo's Web Results for Free
In order to get your commercial site included in the Yahoo web results index it's important to get a link to your site from another site that's already in Yahoo's index. Search engines use crawlers or bots to scan all of the web sites in their database and to find new sites to include. As a spider scans a page it makes a collection of the hyperlinks located within that page and will follow each of those links and then repeat the process on every link it finds.

By having a link pointing to your website, whether it's commercial or personal, you'll be able to get your site indexed by Yahoo within 2 - 4 weeks or even faster.

If you try it and it works LOL pm me so i know

I have tried for 4 years to be listed and not one of my sites have been added.

It seems to me that Yahoo only cares about the money side and not the quality of the websites.

Has anyone got in the Yahoo directory for free?

Hi,

I never submitted my site to the yahoo directory but it is listed in their. I found my link on some random website, whilst checking to see who linked to me. I then noticed a was in the yahoo directory and they had used the exact anchor text and description as in the link on the other site. My site is a commercial site!

Maybe im just lucky, but I guess the answer is patience and concentrating on making a good website and getting other people linking to it. Yahoo & DMOZ come along and are an additional benefit, I wouldn't waste too much time researching how to get in.

So what you are saying is that Yahoo! indexed another site, then they indexed yours because the other site linked to yours? If this is the case, then shouldn't most sites be listed? There are plenty of sites linking to SearchBliss, and nothing. Odd.

Yes it is possible, it just takes time. Submit and forget is best, just like on Dmoz.

Really don't you think it's to bad that a hand full of the major search engines control 90% of the web? We set around month after month, year after year just wishing and hoping that there going to index us into there engine system. Why should a person have to wait for months or forever to get listed? It's all about big money control.

No, Why should it? I don't get the point about a handful of major SEs and what's it got to do with the thread title ???

There are 3 major engines that have around 95% of all search traffic. This is how the Internet users have made it regardless of how much money the SEs owners throw at it.

If you are relying on the free results then that's your choice and you have to fit in with how the SEs work. If you want to sit back and whinge about how long it all takes then again it's your choice, and if your business model is to rely on purely free results then you are riding for a fall.

Instead of waiting why not do some proper promotion? PPC, Paid ads on other sites, Offline promotion etc etc. Then you don't have to wait for buyers to come along.
A real world project doesn't become successful overnight, Why should you expect this of an online business project.

Great points Chris. Now back to the topic. Some say they have been listed for free. How exactly? Besides submitting over, and over, and over, and...Or is this the only way?

Chris,
Thanks for your comments. I'm sure your point is well taken. I just done think the little man has a really good chance against big money and the structure of these engines. Look at the referral links I just took off of a couple of the engines to my main site. I feel like I'am at the bottom of the barrel. I could be right. I just need to get my head out of the sand. I had a good run in the ppc. I just looked over at my paying clicks with my xml partner and I'm averaging 1141 per day that's on a 30 day 34230 figure average. Before Google did everything right it was many many much much more's. I haven't given up. That's not my tune. I just feel like we need a place were we can at least get some type equality rotation with some better respect for the not so powerful. I know I have to earn that. I guess I just like to ***** alot! Also, sorry for getting so far off the topic. As a new person here I do like the forums. Again thanks for your response.
