Please expand on what you mean and what the purpose of this thread is. I have heard of the term dmoz before, but I don't know what it means.

It means are any members here demo editors lol....go check out dmoz.org if you want an explanation of what a dmoz editor does.

I don't expect to get many replies to this thread, as most dmoz editors keep to themselves about it due to the harrassment they get whenever they come forth.

I know one but I don't think he would want me to tell anyone maybe. I am not one though. And what it is, is a search engine type of thing or directory and there results are listed in big search engines.

I have applied like 5 times over the last year to be an editor in several different categories and I get turned down everytime. I was wondering if anyone has actually had success in becoming an editor.

I am not an editor on two other directories, and almost have status to edit on Zeal. But DMOZ is definitely the king of directories, and even though a lot of people feel it is going downhill, a listing on Dmoz does make a major contribution to a site especially in terms of backlinks. There are so many dmoz clones out there, that you are almost instantly given thousands of backlinks to your site with a listing.

Allthough i submit all my sites to dmoz, im not a fan of it.
The editors treat it like an "in club" where they act as if they are masters of the internet. Talk about a power trip.

Plus, the editors of catagories have sites that are in that catagory, so effectivly they get to minimise the competition for their share of the market by denying people entries into dmoz if they feel it will threaten their position..
Its not fair at all.

its really nice that you feel your site should be included, but the folks who take the time to review all the submissions shouldn't be allowed to be listed.

Im saying my site should be judged on a level playing field with all other sites submited.

Do you think a Dmoz editor will review his own site and reject it? LOL
Or do you think he would list it instantly, before anyone elses?
That kind of practice goes against the whole "Dmoz ethic".

Dmoz has lost a lot of credability lately through things like that.

I have also read about a DMOZ editor who would change his competitors listing every couple of months.

Would change little things like

http://www.yoursite.com
http://yoursite.com
http://www.yoursite.com/index.htm
http://yoursite.com/index.htm

of course they would add themselves first. that doesn't make the whole place corrupt. nor can i blame them. id love to meet one of these 'supposed' corrupt dmoz editors. until you have proof of this you're just bad mouthing people you don't know.

honestly you ought to not get so bent out of shape, and move on.

Why should they be allowed to submit their site before other peoples?

Think about it in another situation.
Imagin someone whos job was to process passports, it would make the system corrupt if the person issuing passports was to issue his own and the passports of friends before he done yours woudn't it? Its not his job to decide what order they processed in, its his job to process them as they come in.

The editors at Dmoz have volunteered to do that job.
When people volunteer to do a job and then only use it to benifit them selves it makes it corrupt.

If you thinik that this dosn't go on when they have over 70'000 editors then you must be the most nieve person on the planet. But i don't expect anything more than the usually dissmissive "prove it" responce from someone who likes to wear rose tinted glasses.

Most peole would question the motives of any Dmoz editor anyway.
They come accross as being complete jobsworths who like to feel important on the internet.

this statement just goes to show that you know nothing about the job of a dmoz editor. if you ever spent any time on the DMOZ forum you would know that editors are not required to approve them in the order they are submitted. many editors would state it to people inquiring about their submissions.

the fact that you think 70,000 dmoz editors are conspiring against the rest of the web is a bit laughable. i have no doubt there are probably a few less then ethical editors, but that is life. there's bound to be an evil person or two in a group that large. get over it.

Is thier job to deliberatly sabotage other peoples listings, or to leave out listings that will compete with thier own while they automatically list thier own site?

Give it a year and Dmoz will be a pile of ****. Google will stop using it just because of the public opinion its starting to get. So i hope the editors are happy when Dmoz has deminished to a link farm full of thier own links instead of the quality dirrectory it shoudl be.

Most people dont even care of they get on Dmoz these days anyway.

I pretty much gave up on dmoz. I have only ever had one site listed, and this was back on '01 or '02. I haven't had a single site listed since.
