Is free directory submission really helpful

Recently I have submitted my site to 1000 free directories but after cross checking only 20 have accepted my site rest are in pending state . So its just 2 % of total . Considering the time spent on directory submission is it useful to have DS at all ?

Yeah its helpful but these days directory submission are becoming obsolete it can help in backlinks but getting traffic from these directories is difficult.

They say its a good use for backlinks. But what I dont understand is why did they reject your site Find an automatic directory submitter if you dont like manual submission, but its risky because there is a chance that you will end up being banned by google if you generated more than hundred or thousands in a month

Any links back to your site are going to be a good thing as long as they are not on some site that Google hates.

directories are the gold mine for backlinks especialy one way links

Take your time and submit to a few general directories every day and in a year you'll have a lot of links.

I've found that niche directories are usually more willing to approve links and they also carry more weight raising your site in the search engines.

Well, the results from submitting to directories for is not that big so I don't really give it that much time. I only submit to directories when I have an extra time or if there is nothing else left to do. I'm not saying that its that bad but am saying though that its not that helpful as well (i mean compared to all the things that one can do instead)

Yes, definitely it is useful. I know it takes time but dont worry about it and just continue with the submission.

yes it is.. you get to advertise your site for free.. have it posted for others to see... generate traffic and increase your backlinks

Free directory submission is still useful for getting good backlinks but people are using some different techniques which are the most powerful such as blog commenting and fourm posting.
