Hello renantech,

It definitely not true, building backlinks is arguably the most important part of modern day SEO. Website and article directories are a good way for webmasters to promote their websites. Article and Web Directory submission can build backlinks, increase exposure and traffic.

There is nothing wrong with submitting to directories, if anything it is the only form of link building that actually has a long term effect. Since most blogs and bookmark sites are going no follow it only makes sense to keep using directories.

99% of directories have very little weight. A link with Yahoo or DMOZ would matter, but not a directory that no one has ever heard of... There are better ways to spend your time!

That site "has heard from multiple sources in the game development and publishing community that Nintendo is currently showing early presentations of its next home console hardware. Apparently set to hit the market 'by 2011,' the device is said to be the true 'next generation' Nintendo console, and far more than a simple refresh of the current (Wii) hardware."

The post continued, asserting that this rumored new device could have high-definition capabilities, as well as a "greater emphasis on digitally distributed and backwardly compatible content."

For its part, Nintendo said it does not comment on rumors.

It could be mere coincidence (because odds are that even if the rumors are true, Nintendo wouldn't want to confirm them for quite some time), but on Thursday, the company is hosting its annual media day here in San Francisco. And I'd been told that it would "have news" it would be releasing at the event. Until now, I'd assumed the news would be something only minimally consequential, but of course, announcing a new Wii development project would make a few headlines, I would think.

More likely, the news that Nintendo will put out Thursday will be about a new multimedia DS handheld device, such as the one the video game blog Joystiq says could be unveiled at a separate press event in Japan Wednesday night.

Still, if the new Wii rumors are true, it will be a long time before Nintendo would be ready to unveil any details--think maybe the Game Development Conference in March, 2009, or E3 next July. Or possibly not even then.

I have always been a fan of directories and have used directory inclusion as a strategy to help build link popularity, especially for new sites.

This is good to spend time for directory submission for new sites, but after a reasonable rank you must pay more time on article submissions and other activities related to your niche.

I think there are hundreds of gurus who will tell you that links from directories/nofollow blogs and similar places do not work. I'm wondering how many of them have made some research on this topic. Probably none.

I did research and experiments for long time, and I know these links DO work. ANY link is better than NO link.

Might be right for nowadays most of directories are of 0 PR themselves. How could they transfer any juice to your sites.

Well, I may have to agree that some directories are only source of low quality links from experience, although even with this experience, I still submit to 10 to 15 directories from time to time, after that, I focus on other link building techniques. Tools like Analytics and webmasters tools shows that directories are giving me backlinks and traffic as well from time to time, but, the quantity is very low. Lets say that maybe out of all the 1000 directories that I have submitted to, only a hundred of them shows up in this tools.

You can't generalize it. Not all directory links are low quality. In fact, directory submission is still a good way to boost ranking and number of backlinks. It really depends on where you submit your links to. Choose the ones with good PR.

Directory submissions are great, if your website is listed on PR sites. But, be sure to make MANUAL submissions. Dmoz is worth considering in a long term strategy.

Could you tell me why manual submission is better than automated? It's good if you have no life and prefer wasting hours of time every day. I could not think any other reason at the moment.
