I've used it sparingly - wouldnt' say "fond of" though. I'm interested to see what others have to say.

I'm fond of DMOZ in the same way that people are fond of the most popular girl in school (who won't talk to them.)

It took me three years to get listed and I can't say I have gotten much from it, that I know of. My PR didn't really do anything. So was it worth it? I guess just for bragging rights. Something to list on my list of directories i'm on. Can't really bad mouth it, it's not like anyother directory has help me much either.

I submitted my site several years ago. As the rules state, I didn't submit it again. The site complies with the guidelines, is a complete site since 2002, home of a couple of open source tools for windows. Never got an answer, of course. The category I submitted my site to has 29 links on it. And the 12th site listed has the legend "No longer maintained". (dmoz, open source category fiasco).

After three or four years of waiting for my site to be approved. I ask my self why is there a site which is no longer maintained. What's the point of listing such a site?

I tried to get an answer from DMOZ editors about the submission policy and the secrecy about submission status. You can take a look to it. They ended up closing the thread.

If you take a look to other topics in the same forum. You will notice they have mounted a forum for saying all the time: "Some volunteer will process your listing suggestion in time but we can't predict who or when that might be. Elapsed times can range from a few days to a few years. There is no need to re-suggest your website and doing so could be counter-productive because a later suggestion overwrites any earlier one."

realistic101,

My web site hasn’t get approved yet into DMOZ, after 3 years. Web pages with real content are deep several cliks away from home page of DMOZ. So PR of these pages are very small. Many web sites include DMOZ list, maybe it’s the only quality of DMOZ.

I admit that during my first year as SEO I really want my site and blogs to get listed in dmoz but as time passes I don't think of it anymore. It hard to get listed there.

Google started its initial crawl of the web by using the contents of the Open Directory Project (DMOZ). Using such directories, you post a link to your site along with a short description. In this way, you often get to customize your backlink. This means you can use your own description, your own keywords and choose the category that suits your site the best. Isn't that awesome?

I think i have noticed that dmoz editors are rude while answering to queries. This is what I don't appreciate otherwise Dmoz is fine.
