I am contemplating whether to pay that amount to get listed in Yahoo Directory which has a PR7.

Anyone knows if it helps in your own ranking?

Thanks

I have seen a lot of people saying that traffic from yahoo search considerably increased after they submitted to yahoo directory. Although i don't feel its worth the price.

You'll get more for your money if you submit your site to 15 PR3, 4 and 5 directories because
link from Yahoo is still only 1 backlink no matter how much you paid them

Always believe in the fact that -
Quality is better than quantity

Yahoo is one of the best directories with highest editorial integrity after dmoz and there is no fact against it.

Yes, most people highly recommend the Yahoo! Directory. With the exception of a few other paid directories (Best of the Web, etc.), Yahoo! is really the best one out there.

Are you talking about Visitors you are getting from Yahoo for the money you are paying or about link popularity or both?

I must say that being listed in Yahoo Directory won’t give you any leverage in SE results what so ever.
We tried that already and find that our site was buried not only in Directory itself but in SE results as well.
After we stopped paying for nothing, our site start come up inside top 10 pages.

So, forget Yahoo because I will take 15 paid Directories instead at any time.

Thanks to all for the advice ... talking about Dmoz, my sited was approved after close to one year but it didn't do too much to the pagerank after that. So I guess it's quality and quantity.

For $300 you can do alot of link building.

If $300 isn't much for you, yes it worths, but if it's much for you better use it for purchasing more links.

Its better to buy links on different sites with same Page rank. You could probably get upto 5-10 links on sites for 300$ depending on how greedy the site owner is.

Itdepends on your website, if you have a high-paying keywords than it's worth it. As some people say they get two to three visitors per day from it. So it's up to you to decide if those few visitors are worth it. Again those are targeted visitors.

It's NOT $299 for a listing.

It's $299 EVERY YEAR for a REVIEW with NO guarantee of a listing and no refund of the $299 should you NOT get listed.

ignore Toolbar PR it means NOTHING, and even if it did, the PR7 is ONLY FOR THE "HOME" page NOT where your listing might end up

Well said Chris but still i stand to the point that it depends on your website and its niche. As i said, traffic from yahoo gets boosted for some niche sites and for some, money goes into vain.

The answer is No. Having one link from yahoo directory(no matter how much you pay) is not enough to get ranking.

$300 is enough to buy you some backlinks from quality, yahoo indexed web directories, So I would recommend you to go for quality and quantity.

Sure, there may well be some sites that could do well with a Yahoo! listing, most won't.

Over the years I have looked after several sites that were listed in the Yahoo! directory, these were "grandfathered in" from the yahoo.co.uk directory so were not paid for (fortunately) as the real visitors from the listings were only one or two a month.

As with ALL links, consider the listing and the subsequent spend as advertising budget. So the question you should be asking yourself is if $299 per year is good advertising or not.
The answer of course will depend on what a conversion is worth and the conversion rate you would anticipate from a listing. It will be low, simply because of the way that directories like to use bland, non-descript titles and descriptions, the visitors via directories are NOT pre-qualified, so the number of "tyre-kickers" will be higher than if you had a well written "call to action".
So you could be paying $299 per year for 1 maybe 2 conversions a year at best.

The other point of course is that the Yahoo! directory listing is 302 redirected for tracking purposes, so any SE benefit is absolutely minimal if any at all. So if you spend your $299 expecting it to have some amazing benefit in search engines, prepare to be disappointed.
