Submitting to Directories

I'm not sure if this should go into another sub-section or not, but I have a question

Is it worth it (besides the few page views you may get) to submit your site to a directory if your actual directory page (sports, in my case) has no page rank? Is there a benefit to submitting my site to directory.com which has a PR of 6 if directory.com/sports has a non-existent PR?

Thanks in advance for any answers...

Although that specific page is PR0, the backlink will still count, it may not have a great deal of weight in the calculation of your PR but it will count.

If there aren't that many sites listed in that category then adding your site will be good as it will be near the top of the first page. If the PR of that page increases over time, it will improve your PR because you're on the first page. Think of it as building links for the future lol. It may be a reletively new directory but will improve with age.

There is no doubt in submitting to high PR or zero PR directories. The matter of consideration is that directory pages should be cached or indexed timely and their is no bad links in it.

Forget PR as a measure of anything.

Submit to as many free directories as you can.

I recently submitted a client site to 1000 directories, and he went from position 110 in Google to 19 in a months time. The client site was not listed in the top 500 on Live/MSN, and he ended up at position 6.

Submitting to directories is good, but avoid free submissions to high ranking pr directories. Most of them take months to review submissions or they simply delete them. Check out my sig for a list of newer free directories that are eager to accept your submissions.

I hope you meant to say that to get listed in Top Directories would be much wiser to pay for inclusion within 24 hours.

You're right about Top Directories may delete links but there is very good reason for that. They will not tolerate spam and spammy sites, Guidelines violation etc. because they have pool of thousands of sites to choose from never the less you must at least try because s*it is happened and you may get lucky.

From my experience, directory submissions aren't worth much as far as PR goes. They're main use is to get indexed.

If you can find high pr directories then submit to them but if you can't find them just continue to submit whatever you find

Submitting to a bulk load of free directories will just hurt your rankings dude. Good quality directories with good serps are to be considered while submitting your website.
Don't always think of free.. think of the consequences that would occur due to it.

A page that is PR 0 today may be a PR 5 soon enough. The more pages your link appears on, the greater the chance that page will one day have PR. If it's linked from the higher level higher PageRank page, eventually the PR will flow through to you.

But like others said, forget PR and deal in rankings.

Submitting to a page without PR might not help your PR but its an additional backlink.

Such a pagelink may or may not contribute in your ranking , but if the page is indexed in search engine, seo friendly, and owner is concerned about promoting the listing as well the directory, than you should look forward to traffic to your site from this backlink.

Since I run a paid directory, I would not want to tell people to spend money. Some might think I'm prompting people to spend money at my deep link directory.

The truth is everyone is chasing PR, so the way to get included in a high PR directory quickly is with a paid express review. Or wait in line for the thousands of other free submissions to be reviewed - if they even review the free submissions at all...

I'm not talking about top directories. Very few top directories have free submission options anymore. I'm talking about "free" directories that have not listed my sites/client sites nor sent me any denied E-mail notification in over 6 months. Six months should be adequate time to review, especially in some PR 4 directories. The fact is some directory owners are deleting free submissions without ever reviewing them. And most of the directories doing this have higher PR then most directories.

Yes, spammy sites will get deleted, but nothing I've submitted is spammy. Most of my submission clients operate brick and mortar businesses with no Adsense, affiliate links, etc. If anything, they tend to have links to the BBB and the professional associations they are members of. I can't see why anyone would deny free submissions from such sites, unless they were not reviewed in the first place...

This is why some people say directory submissions don't work. It's because they took the highest PR free directory list they could find and submitted away and got results as I noted above. The truth is directory submissions do help. But use free submissions at newer directories and spend some money at some of the higher ranked/well establsihed directories.

A waste of time, the high PR normally needs payment, the low PR submissions really does not help much even though a backlink is a backlink but lousy backlinks will not up your SERP or PR

submitting to directory that give good backlinks and a fair traffic is the way to go when thinking of directories. Others are just loads of crap trying to earn form ads. You can get better on paid submission but well maintained directory.
