Hi,

I am a medical doctor and I know very little about SEO. But What I have done has made my site a well-established medical forum.

My medical forum achieved a pagerank of 4 within few months of its launching. What I did was submitting my site to all the FREE web directories I know, regardless of their pagerank. But I make sure my site is in the appropriate category.

See my forum's backlinks.

I do not believe in those web directory submission software and paid directories. I believe FREE directories are equally good for SEO purposes. I cant say my forum is very popular but I am quite happy with its current achievement.

Thanks. All the best to your site.

Dr. TKA

I think you're very right about sticking to free submissions and doing it manually.

a few months back, google penalized the top 30 paid directories very heavily, that's a clear sign !

Yes, Google is always trying to fight SEO. But, as soon as they tweak their systems, the SEO people figure out how to undermine the change.

Google tells you to "build content for visitors, not the search engines", but they actively reward those who ignore that advice by sending them tons of free traffic. So, one can only conclude that Google does not want to stop SEO. It seems they only want to stop the wide spread use of it outside their close knit circle of cronies.

I am glad to hear of your results Dr. TKA. Free directories are great, and I have good results with them as well.

Paid directories do have their place though. Some paid directory owners spend the money for paid listings on traffic and other improvements that make their directories appeal to end users - thus giving those that list more traffic.

Dr.

You got PR4 mostly because other sites placed links to your content and because you are smart enough to stay away from submission scripts as result you got rewarded by directories with link to your site

Good for you

As most of us know SEO is all about content and links (this is if we have to say it with a few words). Google like good quality site with a lot of helpful content as well as it is well-linked from other places on the net.

No one make SEO by writing content, he/she has to get some links to the site. It is a golden rule. And this goes with all SEs.

You have done a good link building, best way (still) to get back links are directories, articles, forum post, Soc. Media sites, link partners, comments
on blogs. Other are similar to this, but with a bit of changes.

All the best and good luck with the strategy.

Very impressive Dr TKA, although as Snowbird says paid directories can have their uses too. Congratulations though on what seems to be a very worthwhile site.

Google found your forum valuable that's why you got nice PR with satisfactory backlinks. So try to increase more inbound links by submitting to other promotional resources.

I don't mean to diminish your "accomplishment", but I'm surprised that nobody has yet to point out that PAGERANK IS A USELESS METRIC!

I understand that pagerank is not the sole factor in determining ranking of a site but definitely it has its value.

actually, toolbar PageRank isn't a factor in anything at all, so has zero value.

How are your rankings for any medical terms. Do you get over 500 uniques per day from Google?

Submitting your site to paid directories has less assurance that you can get good PR and traffic. I still prefer to submit my site in free directories.
