I'd stay away from automatic submission tools. The best submissions are done manually. Also you don't need or even want to submit to every directory you can find. Most won't even be worth the time it takes to automatically submit.

Your time is better spent on finding the few directories that will provide benefit and manually submit to them.

I was going to say "a keyboard," but VanGogh's answer, "your brain," makes better sense. It might be one in ten directories worth being in. Seek those out, submit by hand, then move on to the next phase in your marketing plan.

Forrest I almost typed keyboard instead of your brain. Keyboards was the first word that popped into my mind.

I'd vote for an intelligent brain as the best tool - you might realise that half the time, it's not even worth it

And do you really think those 200,000 directories are helping? That's one of the problems with auto submitting to directories. You're submitting mostly to garbage sites.

If you use the exact same info to submit to every directory it leaves a pretty obvious footprint that's easy for a search engine to discover and flag.

That's what I mean. If all the automated submissions aren't really doing anything why bother with it. Even if it's only taking a few minutes the auto submits aren't offering a return on those few minutes.

You can try the keyboard and your brains

Don't worry about amount of time it will take because the outcome will exceed your expectations.

Not intending to be the Devils advocate here, so i will try & keep it equal on both parts.... I am listed in over 1,200 directories... the first 800 were automated & the remaining 600 were manual. (In addition, only around 320 show as back links out of the total 1,200)

When checking my server stats for referring sites (keeping in mind that my site is only 10 months old) I found that I have 3 Referrals from directory sites & 6 referrals from classified sites (I only mention classified sites due to some similarities).

The 3 directories I received my traffic from are Very authoritative, just to name one - Dunns & Bradstreet -

While I think that a majority of directories are over rated in a market drowning in saturation, there are a handful out there people still actually utilize on a professional level.

I haven't had much luck with directory traffic so to speak (Even authoritative ones), yet they do seem to help on overall inbound link counts (Targeted / Anchored Preferably).

We each have different experiences
