Looking through the stats logs for my domain I can see that some of the key search phrases for my site are like: 'zyban', 'lipitor', 'tramadol' etc. I have looked through the site's pages and cannot see these keywords anywhere on them. So how come someone can type in a search for 'tramadol' in Google or Windows Live and find a link to my web site?? BTW, I have actually gone to Google and typed in that search phrase and cannot find any reference to my own web site in the results.

Windows Live is messed that way. You're far from the only one that has happened to.

Make sure there are no hidden directories or files on your site that you didn't put there (people hacking your site, etc.) If that's not the case, then treat it as happenstance (unless you have forums and someone's typing things into those forums.)

Awhile back my site was getting search traffic for "sex in the city" even though the only one of those words I'd used at the time was "in"

I never did quite understand how it was done. I think it might be some kind of 302 redirect hack, but I stopped getting the searches showing up in my stats and guess I lost interest in tracking down the cause.

Of course it could be just like Adam said. I do think my 'sex in the city' traffic was all coming from MSN Live.
