Hi, This is my first thread, hope I am in the right place. I have been reading about "Sitemaps" and found a sitemap generator. I have 2 questions, Are they worth adding to a website ? and if so how do you do it ? I generated the code for my website and got a message saying "When done, just copy the code above and paste it into a text editor (e.g. Notepad), save the file as ror.xml (or sitemap.xml), and upload the file into the top (or root) folder of your website (don't paste the code into your page)." What is the top, or root folder, and where do I find it. In the admin for my website I have several pages of code which make up the site. Would appreciate some advice. Mickmac

AFAIK: ROR sitemaps are basicly extended RSS sitemaps. I have yet to find one search engine publicly state they support ROR extensions to RSS (however, they do support the RSS parts of ROR). Anyways, what this means IMO is that you just as well can create a sitemap using XML sitemaps protocol.

From reading your thread I think you are using the rorweb.com site to generate your sitemap. These xml sitemaps that this website generates are used as xml product datafeeds. These datafeeds are used to automatically update the products within an online store. This is not the best solution for you.

If you want to use a sitemap then you should use a Google Sitemap Generator tool and upload the generated file to your root folder.

To answer your actual question the 'root' folder is the same folder where your website's homepage (index) is.
